What is the normal value of alpha-fetoprotein quantitative? These ranges are normal

The normal quantitative value of alpha-fetoprotein has important physiological functions and serves as a positive detection indicator for various tumors.

The reference range of normal quantitative alpha-fetoprotein is: <25 μg/L for healthy adults, <50 mg/L for newborns, 20-100 μg/L for mothers at 20 weeks of pregnancy, and 5-25 mg/L for amniotic fluid (20 weeks of pregnancy).

In primary liver cancer, alpha-fetoprotein (AFP) is mainly valuable for the diagnosis of hepatocellular carcinoma. The positivity rate of AFP in hepatocellular carcinoma is 70% to 90%, and it is related to the degree of differentiation of the cancer. In addition to pathological diagnosis, AFP is the most valuable diagnostic method among various laboratory tests.

When checking the alpha-fetoprotein (AFP) level, there are some things to note:

1. Fasting examination: AFP is produced by new liver cells and is not greatly affected by eating. However, it is necessary to refer to liver function tests for clinical judgment. It is generally recommended to draw blood on a fasting stomach.

2. Pay attention to your diet and rest: Don’t stay up late the day before the examination. It is best to go to bed before 11 o’clock. In addition, eating too much greasy food the night before the physical examination is likely to cause a temporary increase in alpha-fetoprotein. Therefore, try to avoid eating greasy, irritating, and heavy-tasting food from the day before the examination to the beginning of the examination.

3. Do not drink alcohol: If friends who have the habit of drinking every day are undergoing an alpha-fetoprotein test, it is best not to drink alcohol 3-7 days before the test, because alcohol is a major cause of high alpha-fetoprotein levels.
