What are the types of thyroid cancer? What are the causes of thyroid cancer?

There are five main types of thyroid cancer. Papillary thyroid cancer is the most common one, with a relatively low degree of malignancy and a good prognosis. In addition, follicular thyroid cancer and medullary thyroid cancer are thyroid cancers with moderate malignancy. Anaplastic thyroid cancer is very malignant. Thyroid lymphoma is a relatively rare thyroid cancer.

If you receive radiotherapy to your head and neck, or live in a nuclear contaminated area, radiation may affect your thyroid gland, which may induce thyroid cancer. According to the degree of malignancy of thyroid cancer, this disease is clinically divided into several different types. Different types of diseases have different treatment methods and prognoses. So, what are the types of thyroid cancer?
1. Papillary thyroid cancer
This is the most common type of thyroid cancer. People of any age may get the disease, but people between 30 and 50 years old are at high risk. This type of cancer is well differentiated and less malignant. Even if cervical lymph node metastasis occurs in the early stages of the disease, the prognosis is generally good after active treatment.
2. Follicular thyroid cancer
People over 50 are more likely to suffer from this disease. The malignancy of this disease is slightly higher than that of papillary thyroid cancer and is moderately malignant. If the disease is not treated in time, it may invade blood vessels and metastasize to the lungs, liver, bones, central nervous system and other systems through blood circulation, making treatment more difficult.
3. Medullary thyroid cancer
The occurrence of this type of thyroid cancer is related to chromosomal genetic factors. If there is a family history of this disease, the chance of getting it is often higher. At this time, you should pay attention to regular check-ups and seek treatment as soon as possible if abnormalities are found. This disease is moderately malignant. In severe cases, it will metastasize to the lymph nodes and may also metastasize through the blood. However, with active treatment, the prognosis is also good.
4. Anaplastic thyroid cancer
This type of thyroid cancer is highly malignant and progresses quickly. Hematogenous metastasis occurs soon after onset of the disease. Even with active treatment, the prognosis is generally very poor. Generally, people over 60 years old are more likely to suffer from this disease.
5. Thyroid lymphoma
This is a relatively rare thyroid cancer, mainly caused by the rapid growth of thyroid immune system cells. The elderly are more likely to develop this type of thyroid cancer. This is a moderately malignant tumor disease, but if the disease develops to the late stage and mediastinal metastasis occurs, the prognosis is relatively poor.
