However, the clinical significance of Rh(-) cannot be ignored when encountering special circumstances. For example, two consecutive pregnancies in which the mother and the baby have Rh blood type incompatibility may cause serious harm to the fetus. Another example is that when a patient with a history of blood transfusion, abortion, etc. is given Rh(+) blood again, a strong hemolytic transfusion reaction may occur.

Origin of the name: Rh blood type Rh is the first two letters of the foreign name of rhesus monkey (Rhesus Macacus). In 1940, when scientists such as Landsteiner were doing animal experiments, they discovered that Rh blood type antigens existed on the red blood cells of rhesus monkeys and most people, hence the name.

In my country, more than 99% of people with Rh blood type are Rh positive, so hemolytic reactions due to Rh blood type incompatibility during blood transfusion are rare. But less common does not mean non-existent. If a recipient with Rh-negative blood receives Rh-positive blood, an immune hemolytic reaction will occur. The correct approach should be that the blood type of the blood recipient and the blood donor should be the same, that is, both should have Rh negative blood type.
