What should you pay attention to during interventional treatment of liver cancer? Don't forget to add Chinese medicine during interventional treatment of liver cancer

Interventional therapy is one of the common treatments for primary liver cancer, but for patients who have undergone multiple interventional treatments or have poor liver reserve function, embolization should be the main interventional therapy, and high-dose interventional chemotherapy should not be used to avoid aggravating liver damage. Jiao Shunchang, chief physician of the Department of Oncology at the PLA General Hospital, suggested that in order to reduce toxic side effects, traditional Chinese medicine should be used in conjunction with interventional therapy to improve efficacy.

Director Jiao believes that the auxiliary role of Chinese medicine in interventional treatment is to reduce the toxic side effects caused by interventional embolization chemotherapy, improve the patient's appetite and the body's tolerance to chemotherapy, improve the patient's quality of life, and promote the body's recovery. Director Jiao emphasized that in order to achieve the above goals, it is best to be guided by a professional Chinese medicine practitioner and follow the individualized treatment principles of syndrome differentiation and treatment, strengthening the body and detoxification.

Director Jiao reminded that if liver cancer patients have undergone multiple interventional treatments and the liver lesions are stable, they should be re-examined regularly to understand the treatment effect of the tumor. If the liver lesions show signs of activity or new liver metastases appear, hepatic artery interventional chemoembolization can be considered again; if interventional chemoembolization cannot be performed, local puncture and other treatment methods (physical, chemical ablation, radiotherapy, etc.) can be considered, and vigilance should be given to the occurrence of extrahepatic metastatic lesions; if local treatment is not suitable, systemic treatment can be considered.
