Is it good to have thyroid cancer without pain or itching?

Thyroid cancer is painless and has a good prognosis in most cases. Patients with thyroid cancer who do not feel pain or itching have a higher treatment effect and survival rate, so there is no need to be too nervous. The survival time of thyroid cancer patients is mainly related to factors such as tumor stage, type, treatment sensitivity, and tumor growth site. A small number of patients will experience cancer cell metastasis, causing symptoms of pain and itching.

1. Tumor staging: Patients with early thyroid cancer may have no symptoms or may have a painless neck mass, which may be accompanied by hoarseness, but no obvious compression symptoms. As the tumor develops, when the tumor compresses the trachea or esophagus, symptoms such as dyspnea, dysphagia, and hoarseness may occur. In severe cases, dysphagia, dyspnea, and even invasion of the recurrent laryngeal nerve may occur, leading to symptoms such as hoarseness. If the tumor invades the lymph nodes and compresses the lymphatic vessels, it will lead to obstruction of lymphatic reflux, causing dermal edema and a neck mass;

2. Types: divided into papillary thyroid cancer, follicular thyroid cancer, anaplastic thyroid cancer, and medullary thyroid cancer. Papillary thyroid cancer usually grows slowly and may not have obvious clinical symptoms in the early stage, making it difficult to detect. Generally, corresponding clinical symptoms will not appear until it progresses to the late stage, such as neck pain, hoarseness, etc.

3. Treatment sensitivity: There are many treatment methods for thyroid cancer, including surgical resection, iodine-131 treatment, endocrine therapy, targeted drug therapy, etc. Most thyroid cancers are highly sensitive to endocrine therapy, so the treatment effect is better. Follicular thyroid cancer is less sensitive to iodine-131 treatment, so iodine-131 treatment can be selected;

4. Location of tumor growth: If the tumor grows in a shallow part of the thyroid gland and has not reached the trachea, esophagus and other parts, and does not cause the patient to have obvious symptoms such as difficulty swallowing and breathing, then you can choose to observe or undergo surgical treatment.

The fact that thyroid cancer is painless does not necessarily mean good or bad. Patients are advised to go to the hospital for treatment in a timely manner, complete examinations to clarify the tumor stage, and choose appropriate treatment methods under the guidance of a doctor.
