Thyroid cancer causes leukopenia

Thyroid cancer causes leukopenia

Thyroid cancer is a common endocrine tumor in clinical practice, which can be caused by factors such as genetics, radiation exposure, and immune dysfunction. Thyroid cancer can cause leukopenia, which may be caused by factors such as drug effects, radiation damage, and immune dysfunction. It is recommended to clarify the cause of leukopenia under the guidance of a doctor and carry out corresponding treatment.

1. Drug effects: Long-term use of amiodarone hydrochloride tablets, potassium iodide tablets and other drugs in patients with thyroid cancer may lead to hematopoietic function suppression, causing leukopenia or neutrophil granulocyte reduction. During the treatment of thyroid cancer, if leukopenia or even granulocyte deficiency occurs, drug factors should be considered, and the drug should be discontinued in time, or the drug should be changed under the guidance of a doctor;

2. Radiation damage: When thyroid cancer patients undergo radiotherapy, radiation can damage thyroid tissue and lymphatic tissue, causing damage to white blood cells and red blood cells in lymphatic tissue and bone marrow, thus causing leukopenia. If the decrease is mild, no special treatment is generally required. If the decrease is moderate, you can take oral white blood cell tablets and other drugs as prescribed by the doctor;

3. Abnormal immune function: Thyroid cancer patients with other autoimmune diseases, such as rheumatoid arthritis, systemic lupus erythematosus, etc., will also inhibit the production of white blood cells in the bone marrow, causing a decrease in white blood cells. Immunosuppressants such as cyclophosphamide tablets and azathioprine tablets can be used under the guidance of a doctor.

In addition to the above reasons, when thyroid cancer patients have liver cancer or tumors in other parts of the body, it will also affect the production of white blood cells in the bone marrow, leading to leukopenia. Surgery is required for the tumor, and radiotherapy, chemotherapy and other treatments can be used after surgery. It is recommended that patients go to the hospital for treatment in time, find out the cause, and receive professional treatment under the guidance of a doctor.
