Shoulder blade neuralgia

Shoulder blade neuralgia

The scapula is located on both sides of the shoulders. There are many nerves distributed in this area. If you are injured by a cold, it is easy to cause lesions in this area. This disease mostly occurs in adults. When it occurs, you will feel abnormal pain on both sides of the clavicle. It must be solved in time. Acupuncture, cupping and other methods can be used to relieve the pain. Be sure to pay attention to rest more, try to avoid exerting force on both sides of the shoulder blades, and ensure adequate nutrition absorption. Let me explain it to you in detail below.

It occurs after a cold or chill. Adults and men are more susceptible to this disease, and the onset is relatively fast. The patient first feels pain at the base of the neck and above the clavicle, which quickly spreads to the back of the shoulder joint and spreads to the arm and hand after a few days. The pain is like burning, tingling or soreness. It is intermittent at first, and soon becomes continuous pain with paroxysmal aggravation. When the arm is raised forward or outward, the pain can be aggravated due to the traction on the nerves. To relieve pain, patients often avoid upper limb activities and adopt a posture with elbow flexion, or frequently change the posture of their upper limbs and sleep on the unaffected side. There may be obvious pressure pain on the clavicle, in the lower fossa, axilla, etc. Within a few days of onset, the upper limbs feel weak. Over a few weeks, the muscles may shrink. The upper limbs have a decreased perception of pain, temperature, and touch. A few patients may also experience excessive sweating or no sweating, thin and shiny skin, and thickened and unequal nails.

The first step in treatment is to rest the affected limb, bend the elbow, bring it close to the chest, and suspend it around the neck with a wide cloth strap to relieve pain. In the acute phase, adrenal cortex hormones, analgesics, B vitamins, and traditional Chinese medicine, acupuncture, cupping, physical therapy, etc. can be used. The pain usually subsides within 1 to 2 weeks and is cured within 6 to 8 weeks.

After the brachial plexus nerves are emitted from the spinal cord, they pass through the cavity formed by the cervical vertebrae, clavicle, and anterior scalene muscles, and are distributed to the upper limbs through the axilla. Brachial plexus pain may occur when there are congenital abnormalities in the cervical spine, such as excessively long transverse processes, abnormal development of the cervical ribs or anterior scalene muscles compressing the brachial plexus. Women over middle age are more susceptible to this disease. Symptoms develop gradually. More on the right side. In mild cases, there is periodic pain in the swollen shoulder area, radiating downward to the inner side of the arm. In severe cases, the pain is like stabbing or burning, located behind the shoulder blade, radiating to the side of the neck, and downward to the inner side of the upper arm, forearm and palm. It may be accompanied by numbness and tingling on the ulnar side (little finger side) of the upper limb. The pain may be aggravated by lifting, carrying or carrying objects. Keeping your arms close to your chest or raising your hands above your head can relieve the pain. In severe cases, there is weakness and muscle atrophy of the affected limb. The brachial plexus runs along with the arteries and veins that supply the upper limbs. If any of the blood vessels are compressed at the same time, the skin of the hands may become cold and become paroxysmal pale and cyanotic. When the affected limb is hyperextended and abducted, the radial artery pulse weakens or even disappears. In some patients, a bulge can be seen and a bony mass can be felt on the neck, which is the cervical rib. X-rays may confirm cervical rib or other bony deformities.
