Can mid-to-late stage ovarian cancer be cured?

Advanced ovarian cancer can be completely relieved, prolonged, or even cured through surgery and chemotherapy. However, the long-term survival mentioned here does not mean that cancer cells are completely eliminated from the body after treatment and will not recur in this life, but that the cancer cells in the body are eliminated to a very low level through treatment.

Ovarian Cancer Symptoms:

1. It is more common in perimenopausal women. Those over 35 years old are more likely to develop ovarian epithelial cancer, while those under 35 years old are more likely to develop germ cell malignant tumors.

2. Pain: Malignant ovarian tumors may cause a considerable degree of persistent swelling and pain due to tumor changes such as bleeding, necrosis, and rapid growth, and local tenderness may be found during examination.

3. Irregular menstruation includes irregular uterine bleeding and postmenopausal bleeding.

4. Weight loss in the late stage is progressive.

Ovarian cancer signs:

1. Bilateral lower abdominal masses: 75% of malignant ovarian tumors grow bilaterally, while only 15% of benign ovarian tumors grow bilaterally.

2. Fixed mass is one of the characteristics of ovarian malignant tumors.

3. Ascites. Although benign ovarian tumors such as fibroids or papillary cystadenomas may also be complicated by ascites, malignant ovarian tumors are more likely to be accompanied by ascites. Since malignant tumor cells pass through the tumor wall or metastasize to the peritoneum, visual observation or microscopic examination shows that the ascites is mostly bloody.

4. For patients with a longer course of cachexia, due to long-term consumption and loss of appetite, they will show cachexia symptoms such as progressive weight loss, fatigue, and lethargy.
