What are the symptoms of bone cancer

Bone cancer, also known as bone tumor, is a tumor that occurs in bones or their appendages. It can be benign or malignant. Malignant bone tumors, also known as bone cancer, develop rapidly, have a poor prognosis, and a high mortality rate. Malignant bone tumors are divided into primary and secondary. Malignant tumors are secondary malignant bone tumors that metastasize to bones from other tissues or organs in the body through the blood circulation and lymphatic system. So what are the symptoms of bone cancer?

Pain is the main symptom of bone tumors in the early stage. The disease is mild and intermittent. As the disease progresses, the pain will gradually worsen and continue to develop. Most patients have worsening pain at night, affecting sleep. The pain will spread to distant places. Subperiosteal swelling or tumors or superficial tumors appear earlier, and bone swelling and deformation can be touched. If the tumor penetrates the bone, it will produce a fixed soft tissue mass with a smooth or uneven surface. In the late stage of bone tumors, the function of the affected part will be impaired by pain and swelling, accompanied by muscle atrophy in the corresponding parts. Tumors growing into the cranial cavity and nasal cavity will compress the brain and nasal tissues, causing cranial pressure and poor breathing; pelvic tumors will compress the rectum and bladder, causing difficulty in defecation and urination; spinal tumors will compress the spinal cord and cause paralysis. In the late stage of bone tumors, due to tumor consumption, toxin stimulation and pain, a series of systemic symptoms such as insomnia, irritability, loss of appetite, depression, pale complexion, progressive weight loss, anemia, and malignant lesions may occur.

The diagnosis of most bone tumors is complicated and sometimes difficult. Comprehensive analysis should be combined with the above examinations. The final diagnosis depends on histopathological examination. Resection can be performed by surgery, and amputation and joint amputation are the most common methods. However, due to the improvement of chemotherapy methods, in recent years, some scholars have begun to perform tumor resection or total femoral resection and replace it with an artificial prosthesis. Local chemotherapy includes intra-arterial continuous chemotherapy and local perfusion, among which local perfusion is better.
