What to do with fibroids in children

Children with fibroids need to seek medical attention promptly. The doctor will determine the severity of the condition and develop an appropriate treatment plan. Fibroids are generally benign tumors that are common in the skin or soft tissues, but in some cases they may pose a threat to the child's health. Treatment methods include observation and follow-up, surgical resection, or drug therapy, depending on the size, location, and growth characteristics of the tumor.

1What is fibroid?

Fibromas are benign tumors caused by the proliferation of fibroblasts. They are mainly divided into simple fibromas that do not affect nearby tissues and invasive fibromas that may spread locally. Fibromas can occur in the skin, muscles and other parts of the body. The occurrence of fibromas in children is usually related to genetic factors, local trauma or abnormal tissue repair. Small fibromas are mostly painless nodules that are difficult to detect, while larger fibromas may affect local tissue function and even cause pain.

2 Treatment methods for fibroids:

a. Observation and follow-up: If the fibroid is small, has no obvious symptoms, and grows slowly, the doctor may recommend regular observation. This method is suitable for low-risk fibroids. Parents should pay attention to whether there is pain, redness, swelling, or accelerated growth on a daily basis, and give timely feedback to the doctor.

b. Surgical resection: When the fibroid is large or compresses surrounding tissues, surgery is the preferred treatment method. The doctor will choose to remove the tumor based on its shape and location. Regular follow-up examinations are required after surgery to prevent recurrence.

c. Drug therapy: Some aggressive fibroids may require combined drug therapy, such as nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) to control tumor growth, or hormone drugs to reduce inflammatory responses. Severe or recurrent patients may need further targeted drug therapy.

3Home care and lifestyle adjustments:

In daily care, parents need to pay attention to their children's exercise and diet, and avoid local friction and squeezing of the fibroid area. If the doctor believes that fibroids may be related to immune regulation, parents can help their children improve their immunity, such as eating a balanced diet and increasing outdoor activities. After tumor resection, you need to follow the doctor's instructions to take good care of the wound and return to the hospital for regular checkups.

When facing children's fibroids, there is no need to panic. Seeking medical treatment in time and following the doctor's advice can effectively manage the condition. Parents need to remain patient and confident, respond scientifically, pay attention to changes in the child's physical and mental health in daily life, and provide sufficient support and care.
