How long can you live with bile duct cancer? Five-year survival rate is 30%

How long one can live with bile duct cancer varies from person to person, and is related to many factors such as the location of the cancer, the stage of the disease, and the treatment method. Generally, if surgical treatment is actively chosen in the early stages of the disease, the five-year survival rate is about 20% to 40%. In severe cases, the survival period may be less than one year.

1. Location of cancer
If the cancer is located at the liver hilum, the five-year survival rate is about 30%. When the cancer occurs in the middle or lower end of the bile duct, the five-year survival rate is relatively high.
2. The severity of the disease
If the cancer is in the early stages and treatment is active, the survival period is generally longer. If lymph node metastasis and distant metastasis have already occurred, it means that the disease has progressed to the late stage and there is no chance of surgery. The five-year survival rate is very low and some patients may survive less than a year.
3. Treatment methods
If surgical treatment is possible, try to choose surgical treatment, which can prolong the survival period; if conservative treatment is chosen, the survival period will generally be shortened.
