Acute alcohol intoxication

Acute alcohol intoxication

Alcohol poisoning is very common. Some people may have mild symptoms such as nervous disorders and loss of control. If it is serious, it may lead to death. Alcoholism is a serious phenomenon. In particular, acute alcohol poisoning is a phenomenon that can cause harm to people.

Acute alcohol intoxication includes ordinary drunkenness, pathological drunkenness and complicated drunkenness. Why do some people get drunk after drinking a small amount of alcohol? This is related to people's ability to adapt to ethanol and their tolerance to ethanol. Let's take a look at the symptoms of acute alcohol poisoning.

(1) Excitement stage: When the blood alcohol content is between 200 and 990 mg/L, the person will experience dizziness, fatigue, loss of self-control, euphoria, increased speech, sometimes rudeness, emotionality, facial flushing or paleness, and a smell of alcohol on the breath;

(2) Ataxia stage: At this time, the blood alcohol content reaches 1000~2999/L. The patient has uncoordinated movements, a stumbling gait, clumsy movements, incoherent speech, nystagmus, restlessness, and diplopia;

(3) Coma stage: blood alcohol content reaches 3000mg/L or above. The patient is sleeping, with pale face, low body temperature, cold and clammy skin, and slightly cyanotic lips. In severe cases, the patient falls into a coma, develops Cheyne-Stokes respiration, has a rapid heartbeat, and suffers from incontinence, and eventually dies of respiratory failure. There are also cases where death is caused by weakened pharyngeal reflex, vomiting after a full meal, leading to aspiration pneumonia or suffocation. There are also reports of secondary lacunar cerebral infarction and acute alcoholic myopathy (myalgia, tenderness, muscle swelling, muscle weakness, etc.). Alcohol inhibits glycogen synthesis, causing a significant decrease in liver glycogen, causing hypoglycemia and aggravating coma.

If acute alcohol poisoning is not treated urgently, it can easily cause serious harm to the patient. If the alcohol poisoning is mild, no treatment is required. If the alcohol poisoning is severe, methods such as making the patient vomit or injecting the patient with glucose, vitamins, etc. can be used. Finally, I would like to remind everyone not to drink excessively for a long time.
