Which one has greater radiation, CT or X-ray

The human body is composed of many organs and tissues, and the structure of many parts is very complex. When different parts are sick, the inspection methods and instruments usually used are different. CT and X-ray are more common inspection methods. They can observe the changes of diseases inside the body through impact inspection. Everyone knows that CT and X-ray have radiation to the human body. So which one has greater radiation, CT or X-ray?

Which one has more radiation, CT or X-ray?

1. X-rays have greater radiation. The two most common X-ray examinations in medicine are chest X-rays and X-rays. The principle is roughly as follows: a person stands under X-rays, and the doctor then observes whether there are any abnormalities in the tissues and organs inside the body.

2. X-rays are highly radioactive and include rays released by nuclear weapon explosions. This type of radiation can penetrate cells and damage DNA, causing mild diseases such as leukemia or severe diseases such as gene mutations or even cancer. In fact, it does not mean that you will get sick from radiation after being exposed to it. Radiation is about dosage. If the dose and duration received by the human body exceed certain values, it will cause irreversible damage to the body.

3. The risk factors of medical equipment are strictly regulated and explained and are within the safety range for the human body. However, this kind of safety is relative. It does not mean that we can abuse it or conduct frequent X-ray examinations as long as it is within a safe range.

4. CT is a fully functional instrument for detecting diseases. It uses X-rays to pass through the human body in layers, and then uses computer calculations to create a secondary image, just like cutting a piece of bread into slices.

5. Because the tissue can be displayed in layers, the scanned image is very clear. However, the clarity of the image is directly related to the radiation dose used. The higher the dose, the clearer the scanned image quality.

6. When the dose reaches a certain level, the image quality will begin to deteriorate again. Therefore, staff need to control the dosage very scientifically and not harm the user's health for the sake of image quality. They must scan the clearest images for users at the lowest possible dosage. In general, compared with X-rays, CT is a detection method with strong radiation.

What are the common X-ray examinations?

1. Chest X-ray. Chest X-rays are primarily used to examine diseases of the lungs, heart, aorta, mediastinum, and bones in the chest cavity.

2. Lung X-ray. The lungs are one of the most important organs in the human body. Lung X-rays can detect pneumonia, emphysema, pulmonary edema, pneumothorax, tuberculosis, lung cancer, etc.

3. Gastrointestinal tract radiography. Gastrointestinal radiography can examine the structure, shape and activity of the mucous membranes of the stomach, esophagus, small intestine, colon, etc. It can also detect diseases such as polyps, ulcers and tumors in the digestive tract.

Medical technology integrates countless types of technological developments, and then uses them in all aspects of medicine through improvement and development. Therefore, whether it is X-rays or CT scans, from the perspective of their diagnostic effects on human diseases, the radiation they produce is almost negligible. However, special groups of people, such as women who are preparing for pregnancy or women who are already pregnant, must stay away from these special examinations.
