How to treat viral keratitis

How to treat viral keratitis

The so-called viral keratitis is a corneal disease caused by infection of the cornea by bacteria and viruses. The disease can be mild or severe and can occur for many reasons. If you have viral keratitis, your vision will be damaged to a certain extent. If it is not treated in time and allowed to develop, it is very likely to cause blindness in the end. No one wants such an unfortunate thing to happen, so we should protect our eyes and prevent them from being infected by external viruses.

Many patients and their families want to learn more about this aspect, and they are also eager to know how to treat this disease. In fact, there are ways to treat viral keratitis, but during the treatment process, you must also control your food intake.

1. Avoid drinking alcohol. Alcohol can reduce the body's immunity and accelerate the reproduction of viruses, so patients with viral keratitis must give up alcohol and alcoholic beverages;

2. Avoid mutton. Since the deep corneal lesions of patients with viral keratitis are a manifestation of immune response, and eating mutton can aggravate this chronic immune response and lead to worsening of the disease, patients with viral keratitis should not eat mutton;

3. Avoid hot compresses. Because the human cornea is in a relatively cool environment most of the day (except for sleep), it has become accustomed to it. If it is suddenly subjected to a higher temperature when it is sick, it is tantamount to adding fuel to the fire, causing it to suffer from high temperature and lack of oxygen.

4. Avoid cutting corners when using medication. Antiviral eye drops should be applied 6 to 8 times a day and cannot be reduced. The principle is very simple. Medicine is like soldiers. It is like conquering a city. You need a million elite soldiers, but if you only send 10,000, the result can be imagined.

5. Avoid pressing the lacrimal sac when instilling the medicine. When patients take medication, the eye drops they put into their eyes will flow into the lacrimal sac. If this channel is not blocked at this time, the efficacy of the medication will be greatly reduced;

6. Avoid bandaging your eyes. Bandaging the eyes can increase the temperature of the conjunctival sac and secretion, which is conducive to the reproduction of bacteria and viruses. In addition, the gauze used may scratch the cornea.

7. Avoid closing your eyes and lowering your head. This action may cause congestion in the patient's eyes and aggravate the condition;

8. Don’t quit when things are going well. Only after the disease is cured can the patient stop taking the medicine according to the doctor's advice;

9. Avoid stopping hormones suddenly. Some patients think that when the condition is quickly controlled, the cornea becomes transparent, vision improves, and the treatment effect is satisfactory, they mistakenly believe that their disease has been cured and stop taking the medicine on their own initiative, which leads to serious consequences. They do not understand the use of hormones and that hormones need to be gradually reduced and stopped;

The above are some suggestions provided to everyone. I hope that after reading them, you can pay attention to them in your life. It is said that eyes are the windows to the soul, and no one wants to have any eye disease. Therefore, we should protect our eyes even more and not rub our eyes with our hands, as this can easily bring bacteria from our hands into our eyes.
