At what age do bones stop developing?

People's bones stop developing after a certain age, so a person's height is fixed at certain ages. In fact, we can know a lot of things through bones. Not only the growth and development conditions but also the development trends of body organs can be understood through bones. So now many people want to know at what age bones stop developing?

Generally, after puberty ends at the age of 17 or 18, development stops. If development stops, bones generally can no longer grow longer or wider. The only bones that can change are the short bones, such as those in the fingers and toes.

The complete development of bones is based on the closure of the long bone epiphysis, which can be shown on X-rays. Generally, it is around 25 for men and around 23 for women. However, it does not mean that bone growth stops.

For example, when growth hormone is secreted excessively in adults, the flat bones will widen, leading to acromegaly; the fingers will become thicker, and the cheekbones, nasal bones, mandibles, etc. will become enlarged.

During the adolescent growth spurt, height increases very rapidly. The main reason for growing taller is bone development. Boys can grow an average of 7 to 9 cm taller each year, and up to 10 to 12 cm taller each year. On average, girls can grow 5 to 7 cm taller each year, and up to 8 to 10 cm taller. This mainly relies on the growth of the lower limbs and spine. Generally, women stop growing in height between the ages of 19 and 23, and men stop growing in height between the ages of 23 and 26. At this time, because the epiphysis is closed, it can no longer grow. Since women's epiphyses generally close earlier than men's, adult women are shorter than men. Adolescent boys and girls all hope to have a taller stature, so we need to further understand the factors that may affect height:

The sooner or later of mature age will affect the height growth rapidly. Generally speaking, people who experience rapid growth earlier will reach the end point faster; those who experience it later will also reach the end point later. While girls with precocious puberty are no longer growing taller, girls with late puberty are still growing taller. Therefore, the rate of late sexual maturity in young girls is higher. The fastest growth period in height is during early adolescence. A girl's height can increase by 7 to 8 cm in the year before her first menstruation; while a boy's peak height growth period is the first year of puberty, around 13 to 14 years old, when his height can increase by 10 to 12 cm.

Height is "built up" of nutrients (especially protein). There are 50,000 to 100,000 substances that make up the proteins in the human body, and the eight essential amino acids that make up these proteins must be supplied by food. If food can provide sufficient amounts of the eight essential amino acids, it can accelerate protein synthesis and help the growth and development of tissues and organs throughout the body, especially the growth and development of bones and skeletal cartilage. Experiments on preschool children showed that the experimental group that added 0.5 grams of lysine to each meal of bread was significantly taller and heavier than other children. Japan conducted an experiment on 6 pairs of twin babies, dividing them into two groups. The first group was given normal nutrition, while the second group had lysine added to their food. After 1,300 days, the babies in the second group were an average of 1.7 cm taller and 1 kg heavier than those in the first group. It can be seen that comprehensive and reasonable nutrition is a factor that affects height, and it is also a necessary condition for remedying height.

The metabolism of bones, especially the lower limbs and spine, is most active during sexual development, which requires a rich supply of nutrients. High-protein in the diet, especially animal protein and inorganic salt foods such as calcium, phosphorus, and vitamins, such as lean meat, eggs, milk, fish, and various B and E vitamins that promote metabolism, nutrients contained in beans, whole grains, fresh fruits and vegetables, all contribute to the full development of bones, that is, the growth, thickening, widening of bones and the thickening of the bone cortex.

After understanding the above, everyone must know the reason. Bones are generally fully developed at the age of seventeen or eighteen, and other ages are special cases. Therefore, if a child wants to be tall, he should supplement his body's nutrition in time, and his development in all aspects also needs to be understood in time.
