Mango is a very common tropical fruit in our daily life. Its biggest characteristic when storing is that it is afraid of cold. Therefore, it is best to store it at room temperature after buying it, especially not in the refrigerator. Long-term refrigeration will cause the mango to be frostbitten. After frostbitten, the color of the mango flesh will change greatly and it will slowly begin to rot.

Tropical fruits are afraid of refrigeration

Northern consumers often don't know much about the characteristics of tropical fruits. In fact, most of them are afraid of cold and are not suitable for refrigeration in the refrigerator.

If the skin becomes sunken and has some dark brown spots, it means that the fruit has been frostbitten. Frozen fruits not only have their nutrients destroyed, but they can also easily spoil. After a few days, the flesh will turn brown and begin to rot.

The reason why tropical and subtropical fruits are afraid of low temperatures is related to their growing areas and climate. Generally speaking, fruits grown in warm areas, especially in summer, are less resistant to low temperatures than fruits grown in colder climates and in autumn. Therefore, some temperate fruits, such as grapes, apples, and pears, can be kept fresh in the refrigerator, but if bananas and mangoes are stored at a temperature of more than ten degrees Celsius, the peel will turn black; if pineapples are stored at 6℃-10℃, not only will the peel change color, but the flesh will also become waterlogged; if lychees, longans, rambutans, etc. are stored at 1℃-2℃, the outer peel will darken in color, and the inner peel will have some spots like burns, and such fruits are often no longer edible.

How to store tropical fruits

In daily life, tropical fruits are best stored in a dark, cool place. If they must be placed in the refrigerator, they should be placed in the vegetable and fruit slot with a higher temperature, and the storage time should not exceed two days. Some tropical fruits that are not ripe when you buy them, such as green bananas, are less cold-resistant, so it is best not to put them in the refrigerator. Otherwise, not only will they fail to mature properly, they will also rot and become inedible. Tropical fruits will deteriorate faster at normal temperatures after being taken out of the refrigerator, so they should be eaten as soon as possible.

It's not just mangoes. Many tropical fruits are afraid of cold when stored. Therefore, after buying fruits, it is best to classify them according to their habits and avoid putting all the fruits in the refrigerator. Mangoes have a short storage time, so it is best to buy less at one time and try to eat fresh fruits.
