How long is the incubation period of rabies

Many people nowadays feel spiritually empty, so they usually adopt some methods of raising pets to adjust themselves. This is actually very beneficial to the body and mind, and can have a health-care effect. However, when keeping pets, you must be careful to avoid being bitten by them. Especially if you have larger pets such as dogs. So how long is the incubation period of rabies? Let us introduce it in detail below.

The period from when a person is infected by a pathogen to when he or she shows symptoms of the disease is called the incubation period of the disease. The incubation period of rabies is generally half a month to three months. In most cases, the incubation period is concentrated between 30-90 days. Less than 1% exceed one year, and in some cases it can reach six years. Cases shorter than 15 days and longer than 1 year are rare, and cases with an incubation period of less than one year account for more than 99% of the total cases.

Is the rabies virus resistant?

The rabies virus is not very resistant to external environmental conditions. General disinfectants, heating and sunlight can make it inactive. The rabies virus is sensitive to fat solvents such as soapy water, acids, alkalis, 45%-70% alcohol, formalin, iodine preparations, and chlorhexidine, but it is not easily inactivated by Lysol. Sulfonamides and antibiotics are ineffective against rabies virus. The virus in the brain tissue of dogs that died of the disease in the wild in winter can be stored for several months at 4°C, and has a certain resistance to dryness and repeated freezing and thawing.

The entire course of rabies, including the prodromal period, lasts an average of 8 days for the manic type and 13 days for the paralytic type.

The lesions of furious rabies are mainly in the brainstem, cervical nerves or higher parts of the central nervous system, while the lesions of paralytic rabies are limited to the spinal cord and medulla oblongata, thus causing the difference in clinical symptoms.

In the vast majority of cases of rabies caused by the bite of a vampire bat, there is no excitement phase, no pharyngeal muscle spasm, and no hydrophobia, but ascending paralysis is the main clinical manifestation.

The incubation period of rabies is as long as described above. If you are bitten by a dog, you must rinse the wound with soap or other cleaning products in time, and then get rabies vaccine in time. This is the only way to avoid rabies. If the rabies vaccine is to be administered several times, the injection treatment must be strictly followed.
