What's going on when my eyelids twitch and the corners of my mouth twitch?

If your eyelids twitch and the corners of your mouth twitch, you need to understand the cause and treat it correctly, especially if the eyelid twitching is caused by pathology, or facial spasm, and the patient also feels nausea and dizziness, then active symptomatic treatment must be used to solve the problem.

Why do my eyelids twitch?

In medicine, the eyelids are called eyelids. There are two kinds of eyelid muscles. One is called the orbicularis oculi muscle, which is shaped like a wheel and surrounds the eye. When it contracts, the eyelid closes; the other muscle is called the levator palpebrae superioris muscle, and when it contracts, the eye opens. The constant contraction and relaxation of these two muscles allows the eyes to open and close. If the nerves that control these two muscles are stimulated by certain factors, the two muscles will be excited at the same time, causing repeated contractions, even spasms or tremors, and the eyelids will twitch involuntarily. When eyelid twitching occurs, most people can feel it obviously, but others cannot see it. Only a few people can be seen by others.

What to do if your eyelids twitch

Eyelid twitching can be divided into physiological and pathological types. Physiological eyelid twitching does not require treatment. Many people have experienced physiological eyelid twitching. The attack is transient and short, often only a few seconds, and the degree of twitching is not serious. This type of eyelid twitching generally does not require special treatment. Just close your eyes and rest for a while, do some local massage or hot compress, and the eyelid twitching will disappear.

Eyelid twitching may be hemifacial spasm

Pathological eyelid twitching requires treatment. Some people not only have eyelid twitching, but even the corners of the mouth and half of the face twitch, and they feel nausea and dizziness. This type of eyelid twitching can only be stopped after the cause is found and eliminated. Causes include fatigue, stress and illness. More serious pathological eyelid twitching is caused by hemifacial spasm. This type of eyelid twitching is a sign of intracranial disease. It is mainly caused by compression of the facial nerve roots that control the eyelid muscle movement by blood vessels, resulting in abnormal nerve impulses. It is difficult to heal on its own, so you should ask a neurosurgeon to examine and treat it as soon as possible. Therefore, if eyelid twitching persists for a long time and gradually worsens, you should go to the hospital for treatment in time, as it is most likely caused by facial spasm.
