What are the symptoms of herpes simplex? Here are four points for you to know easily

Herpes simplex is a relatively common skin disease that can easily infect newborns, children and adults. Therefore, it is very important to understand the symptoms of herpes simplex and receive timely treatment. In fact, the symptoms of herpes simplex are different in each period, so everyone must remember them!

The herpes simplex virus (HSV) exists in the blister fluid, saliva and feces of patients, recovering people or healthy carriers. It is mainly transmitted by direct contact, but can also be indirectly transmitted through tableware contaminated by saliva. HSV infection has now become the fourth most common infectious disease in the world.

1. Initial symptoms: Lesions can occur anywhere on the skin or mucous membranes, most commonly on the lips, conjunctiva, cornea and genitals around the mouth, and begin with a burning, itchy and tense feeling. Then erythema appears, and clusters of small blisters appear on the erythema or normal skin. The blister fluid is clear and transparent, and later becomes turbid. Erosion, exudate and scabs appear after abrasion, and secondary suppurative infection may also occur. At this time, nearby lymph nodes may swell. The disease can heal itself within 1 to 2 weeks, and temporary pigmentation spots may remain after healing.

2. The typical lesion caused by primary HSV-1 infection is gingivostomatitis, which is most common in infants and young children. Symptoms include irritability, anorexia, fever, swollen gums and painful oral ulcers.

Primary HSV-2 infection mainly occurs in the vulva, vagina and penis, and is seen in young people. The disease is accompanied by fever, general malaise and swollen and painful inguinal lymph nodes. HSV-2 infection can be seen in newborns and cause serious disseminated disease.

3. Ulcerative perianal inflammation, pneumonia and neurological syndrome, etc.

4. HSV may cause severe encephalitis. HSV-2 is also associated with usually self-limited aseptic meningitis and lumbosacral myeloradiculitis syndrome, the latter of which manifests as urinary retention and constipation.
