What are the hazards of urethral injury

The problem of urethral injury must not be taken lightly, because in clinical practice it often causes patients to suffer from shock or urethral bleeding, especially after a pelvic fracture. If the urethra is injured, the probability of shock is as high as 40%.

1. Shock The incidence of urethral injury shock after pelvic fracture is high, about 40%. Simple straddle injury generally does not cause shock.

2. Before urethral bleeding, the urethra is injured and fresh blood drips or overflows from the urethral opening.

3. Pain and tenderness are common in the area of pain, with pain during urination radiating to the glans penis and perineum

4. Difficulty urinating and urine retention: Patients with severe injuries cannot urinate immediately after the injury. A little while after the injury, the distended bladder can be felt in the suprapubic area.

5. Hematoma and ecchymosis Ecchymosis and hematoma can be seen under the skin of the local area of straddle injury, and may extend to the perineum, causing the skin of the scrotum and perineum to swell and become bluish purple.

6. Urine extravasation Whether urine extravasation occurs and the location of urine extravasation after urethral injury depends on the degree and location of urethral injury. Urine extravasation is more likely to occur in patients with urethral rupture or breakage and frequent urination. Urine extravasation around the bladder may cause rectal irritation signs and lower abdominal peritoneal irritation signs. If urine extravasation is not treated in time or secondary infection occurs, it can lead to tissue necrosis and suppuration. In severe cases, systemic poisoning symptoms may occur. Local infection or necrosis may form urinary fistula.
