How long does it take to recover from encephalitis?

There are many causes of encephalitis, and common viral encephalitis also needs attention. It will show symptoms such as headache, vomiting and bad complexion, so we should pay attention to actively take antiviral treatment, pay attention to physical exercise, and prevent these diseases.

1. Cause

When the virus enters the human body, it first enters the blood, causing viremia, and then invades the systemic organs or the central nervous system; the virus can also directly invade the central nervous system. When viral encephalitis occurs, it often causes inflammation, edema, necrosis and other changes in nerve cells, and a series of clinical manifestations appear. When the inflammation spreads to the meninges, it is called viral meningoencephalitis.

2. [Symptoms]

The severity of viral encephalitis varies greatly. Some patients have persistent high fever, while others have only low fever. They usually have varying degrees of headache, vomiting, poor mental complexion, drowsiness and excessive sleep. Severe cases may have convulsions, coma, limb paralysis, irregular breathing rhythm and other symptoms. Due to the different types of viruses, the manifestations of encephalitis are also varied. Epidemic Japanese encephalitis (abbreviated as Japanese encephalitis) is transmitted by mosquitoes carrying the virus and is most likely to cause high fever, convulsions, and coma. It develops suddenly, progresses rapidly, and has high disability and mortality rates.

Encephalitis caused by herpes simplex virus is also very serious. Not only does the brain have inflammation and edema, but bleeding and necrosis also occur frequently.

3. [Treatment]

Antiviral treatment can be used for confirmed or suspected patients. Acyclovir can be used for cases caused by herpes simplex virus; ribavirin and a combination of traditional Chinese and Western medicine can be used for cases caused by other viruses.

The prognosis of viral encephalitis is closely related to the pathogen. The prognosis of herpes simplex virus-induced encephalitis is poor. Many surviving patients have sequelae of varying degrees.

In addition to physical exercise, injection of various antiviral vaccines is the fundamental way to prevent viral encephalitis.
