Can gout be passed down to the next generation?

Gout is a rheumatic disease. Patients with gout are in great pain. In severe cases, they cannot even get out of bed and walk, and their bodies become obviously swollen. Many people want to know about the hereditary nature of gout, and gout is indeed likely to be hereditary.

It has been clinically confirmed that gout is a congenital metabolic genetic defect disease. About 10% to 25% of gout patients have a family history; among the close relatives of gout patients, 10% to 25% have hyperuricemia; if one parent suffers from gout, 40% to 50% of their children will suffer from gout; if both parents suffer from gout, the chance of their children suffering from gout is as high as 75%. Therefore, primary gout is believed to be hereditary.

The genetic defect of gout is essentially the same as other genetic diseases, mainly gene mutation. The gene exists on human cell chromosomes. It carries the genetic code and controls the synthesis of proteins and enzymes, thereby affecting the metabolism of uric acid. Gout is caused by mutations in the genes of some enzymes that control uric acid production, which leads to increased uric acid production, but the specific inheritance mode is still unclear and there is a lack of reliable and sensitive genetic markers.

At present, except for a very small number of gout caused by purine metabolic enzyme defects, which have been determined to be linked recessive inheritance and familial adolescent hyperuricemia nephropathy, which is autosomal recessive inheritance, the inheritance pattern of most primary gout is still uncertain.

Although gout may run in families, it does not mean that if the father has gout, the children will definitely get gout. Gout patients have every right to have children, and it does not affect their normal married life. However, if there are two cases of gout in the first-degree relative relationship, the incidence of gout in the offspring of this family will be significantly increased, and regular examinations are required.

Through the above introduction to gout, I think everyone has already understood it. In order to avoid such a disease in future generations, if we find gout, we must seek treatment immediately and achieve complete recovery. This is responsible not only for ourselves but also for our families.
