Nails reflect health, these abnormal phenomena should be taken seriously

Our nails can reflect our physical health. If we have good nutrition and good health, our nails will also be in good condition, smooth, pink, and with many half-moon marks. If the nails are sunken or uneven, we should pay attention to any health problems.

1. Clubbing

The nails are prominently arched upward and curved around the fingers. Clubbing of the nails may indicate emphysema, tuberculosis, cardiovascular disease, ulcerative colitis, or cirrhosis of the liver.

2. Blue Crescent

If the crescent-shaped white mark at the base of the nail has a blue halo, it may indicate any of the following conditions: obstructed blood circulation, heart disease, Raynaud's syndrome, vasospasm of the fingers and toes, usually due to cold exposure. But sometimes it is also related to rheumatoid arthritis or the autoimmune disease lupus erythematosus.

3. Spoon-shaped nails

The middle of the nail is sunken, and the entire nail becomes flat or spoon-shaped. This type of nail is related to iron deficiency anemia, syphilis, thyroid disorder, rheumatic fever, etc.

4. Lindsay's Nails

The half of the nail near the tip is pink or brown, and the half near the nail is white. This type of nail is also called a two-part nail and may be a sign of chronic renal failure.

5. Beau's Lines

The appearance of horizontal grooves on the nails indicates malnutrition or some serious illness that will temporarily affect the growth of nails, such as measles, rib inflammation, or a sudden heart attack.

6. Thali's nails

Most of the skin under the nail turns white, with only a small area near the tip of the nail still showing its normal pink color. This may indicate cirrhosis of the liver.

7. Yellow nail syndrome

The nails grow slower and become thicker and harder; they are yellow or green. Causes include chronic respiratory diseases, thyroid disease or lymphoma.

8. Bleeding

If these vertical red lines appear on the nails, it means microvascular bleeding. If multiple such blood lines appear, it may indicate chronic high blood pressure, psoriasis or a fatal infection called subacute bacterial endocarditis.

9. Irregular concave spots

Many psoriasis patients experience this phenomenon.
