The lower abdominal pain caused by holding urine is actually caused by these reasons

Lower abdominal distension and pain after holding urine may be a sign of non-gonococcal urethritis, which is mostly caused by Chlamydia trachomatis. Symptoms include urethral itching, frequent urination, urgency, and pain when urinating. There is a small amount of white mucous secretions at the urethral opening. However, for many patients, the symptoms are not very obvious, especially for female patients who lack typical symptoms, leading to delayed treatment, pelvic inflammation, and infertility.

1. Is lower abdominal pain caused by holding urine a symptom of urethritis? Common causes of urethritis include:

1. Non-gonococcal urethritis: mostly caused by Chlamydia trachomatis. Its symptoms include urethral itching, frequent urination, urgency, and pain when urinating, and a small amount of white mucous secretion at the urethral opening. However, for many patients, the symptoms are not very obvious, especially for female patients who lack typical symptoms, leading to delayed treatment, pelvic inflammation, and infertility.

2. Gonorrhea: A sexually transmitted disease caused by unclean sexual life, bathing in the same bathtub with a gonorrhea patient, or swimming in a public swimming pool. The incubation period after infection is generally 2 to 7 days. The earliest symptom is yellow purulent secretions or white viscous fluid overflow from the urethra, accompanied by burning pain during urination, itching in the urethra, and redness and swelling of the urethral opening. If you are found to have gonorrhea, you should seek timely treatment and avoid going to public baths or swimming pools to prevent cross infection.

2. The harm of holding urine

Holding urine is a bad habit that can lead to urinary tract infection. First of all, holding urine affects the normal regular urination function, causing urine to remain in the bladder for too long, increasing the chance of bacterial growth and reproduction. Secondly, due to holding urine, the pressure in the bladder increases, making it easy for bacteria to ascend along the ureter and cause pyelonephritis. Furthermore, frequently holding urine will cause the bladder to expand and remain full for a long time. Over time, the elasticity of the bladder wall will decrease, the pressure receptors will become dull, and the bladder contraction force will decrease, resulting in an increase in the amount of urine remaining in the bladder after urination, and even urinary retention.

Experts remind that patients need to pay attention to the following points during the treatment of urethritis: no drinking during the period; whether the patient is treated on time and in the prescribed dosage, because the treatment of non-gonococcal urethritis is different from that of gonorrhea, which can be treated in a short-term and sufficient amount, and the medication is taken many times and for a long time. Patients may easily forget to take the medication due to work or other reasons, or stop taking the medication after 1 to 2 days when the symptoms basically disappear, which may affect the efficacy or relapse. Don't rush to change medications at this time.
