What are the side effects of morphine

Morphine is a commonly used sedative and analgesic. Although it is very effective, it still has side effects on the human body. If the human body is not adapted to morphine, it may experience side effects such as difficulty breathing, vomiting, and neurasthenia.

Adverse Reactions

1. Cardiovascular system: It can dilate peripheral blood vessels and produce orthostatic hypotension. Intrathecal and epidural administration may cause a decrease in blood pressure.

2. Respiratory system: directly inhibit the respiratory center, inhibit the cough reflex, and severe respiratory depression can cause respiratory arrest. Bronchospasm and laryngeal edema may occur occasionally.

3. Intestinal tract: nausea, vomiting, constipation, abdominal discomfort, abdominal pain, and biliary colic.

4. Urinary system: oliguria, frequent urination, urgency, dysuria, and urinary retention.

5. Mental and nervous system: transient amaurosis, drowsiness, distraction, weakened thinking ability, apathy, depression, irritability, panic, fear, decreased vision, blurred or double vision, delusion, hallucination.

6. Endocrine system: Long-term use of the drug can cause degeneration of secondary sexual characteristics in males, amenorrhea and lactation inhibition in females.

7. Eyes: Pupils shrink to the size of a needle tip.

8. Skin: urticaria, itching and skin edema.

9. Withdrawal reaction: For patients who are dependent or addicted to this drug, sudden discontinuation of the drug or administration of opioid receptor antagonists may cause withdrawal syndrome, manifested as tearing, runny nose, sweating, dilated pupils, increased blood pressure, increased heart rate, increased body temperature, vomiting, abdominal pain, diarrhea, muscle and joint pain, and increased nervous and mental excitability, manifested as panic, restlessness, yawning, tremor and insomnia.
