1. Although watermelon is a good product for cooling down and relieving summer heat, it is not suitable to be eaten on an empty stomach. Watermelon contains a lot of water. Eating it on an empty stomach will dilute the gastric juice, affect digestion, and may cause gastrointestinal discomfort. In addition, watermelon has a very high sugar content and is not easy to make you feel full. If you are not careful, you will eat too much, which will affect your appetite, increase the burden on your stomach and cause obesity and other problems.

2. Don’t eat too much, otherwise it will damage your spleen and stomach and cause pharyngitis. Watermelon is a cold food. Eating too much watermelon can easily damage the spleen and stomach. Therefore, people with weak spleen and stomach, indigestion, and loose stools should eat less watermelon. Eating too much watermelon will cause abdominal distension, diarrhea, decreased appetite, and will also accumulate cold and dampness, leading to disease. If you eat too much watermelon at one time, the large amount of water in the watermelon will dilute the gastric juice, causing indigestion and decreased gastrointestinal resistance.

3. Do not eat watermelon in the early stage of a cold, otherwise it will make the cold worse or prolong the healing time. In the early stages of a cold, when the pathogens are on the surface, eating watermelon is equivalent to taking medicine to clear internal heat, which will draw the pathogens into the interior, making the cold worse or prolonging the time to cure. However, when the cold worsens and symptoms such as high fever, thirst, sore throat, and yellow and red urine appear, you can eat some watermelon while taking normal medication to help cure the cold.

4. Don’t eat watermelon that has been opened for too long. When the temperature is high, watermelons opened for too long can easily go bad and breed germs, which can lead to intestinal infectious diseases if eaten. Therefore, when eating watermelon, you should pay attention to choosing ripe and fresh watermelon.

5. People with renal insufficiency should not eat it. Eating a large amount of watermelon in a short period of time will increase the water content in the body, exceeding the body's physiological capacity. For those with renal insufficiency, the kidney's ability to regulate water is greatly reduced. They are unable to regulate and excrete excessive water that enters the body, causing a sharp increase in blood volume, and they are prone to death from acute heart failure.

6. People with oral ulcers should not eat it. Traditional Chinese medicine believes that the main cause of oral ulcers is yin deficiency and internal heat, which causes virtual fire to disturb the body and burn the blood, flesh and veins. Watermelon has a diuretic effect. If people with oral ulcers eat more watermelon, some of the normal water needed by the body will be excreted through the diuretic effect of watermelon, which will aggravate the state of yin fluid deficiency. Yin deficiency will increase internal heat and aggravate oral ulcers.

7. Diabetic patients should eat less. Watermelon contains about 5% sugar. If diabetic patients eat too much watermelon, it will lead to increased blood sugar, increased urine sugar and other consequences. In severe cases, they may suffer from ketoacidosis and coma. If you eat 25-50 grams of watermelon at a time, it will not have much effect on diabetics, so diabetics should pay attention to eating watermelon in moderation.
