Stage I: Cancer has spread to the layers below the inner edge of the bladder.

Stage II: Cancer has spread into the bladder muscle wall.

Stage III: Cancer has spread to the fatty layer of tissue around the bladder and may have spread to the genitals.

Stage IV: Cancer has spread from the bladder to the peritoneum or pelvis and may have spread to the lymph nodes or other organs in the body.

Recurrent: Bladder cancer comes back in the bladder or another part of the body after treatment.
