How many times a day should I wash my nose with saline for rhinitis

Rhinitis is caused by viruses, bacteria and some systemic diseases, which can cause congestion, swelling and hyperplasia of the nasal mucosa. At the same time, the patient's sense of smell will also decline, and it may even induce headaches and dizziness. The effect of washing the nose with salt water is still good in the treatment of rhinitis. It can effectively remove bacteria and secretions in the nasal cavity. So how many times a day should you wash your nose with salt water for rhinitis?

First, how many times a day should you wash your nose with saline for rhinitis? Normally, it is usually twice a day. Nasal irrigation with saline is a good way to treat rhinitis, but one important point is: when using saline nasal irrigation to treat rhinitis, you must first rinse the nasal vestibule separately, and then rinse the deep nasal cavity. Flushing directly from one nostril to another or directly into the deep nasal cavity can easily flush the dirt in the nasal vestibule directly into the deep nasal cavity. The structure of the deep nasal cavity is very complex and it is easy for dirt to accumulate (this is why some people have trouble blowing their noses).

Second, it is best to use saline solution for injection when washing your nose. Firstly, it is clean, and secondly, it has the right concentration. If you make your own salt water, you can add 4.5 grams of salt to 500 milliliters of water to get 0.9% salt water. You should choose commercially available pure salt that does not contain iodine, and pure or distilled water. If the nasal mucosal edema is severe, 2%-3% high-concentration saline can be used. Flushing with high-concentration saline can promote the rapid exudation of fluid from the edematous nasal mucosa, eliminate edema, and relieve nasal congestion. High-concentration saline nasal irrigation should generally not exceed 7 days. People who do not have nasal congestion, have very dry nose, or have symptoms of nose bleeding should not use high-concentration saline. It is best to use a special tool to rinse the nasal cavity - an electric nasal washer. In addition, you can also choose large-capacity medical syringes, nasal spray bottles and yoga neti pots.

How many times a day should you rinse your nose with saline for rhinitis? When rinsing, lower your head first, and be careful that your nose cannot be lower than your mouth. Place the left nostril at the bottom and pour salt water into the right nostril. The water will flow out of the left nostril. Repeat this several times. Turn your head and rinse the other nostril. During the nasal wash process, you should open your mouth to breathe. If water flows out of your mouth, do not swallow it, let it flow down naturally. Saline nasal irrigation therapy is safe for children and pregnant women and can be used long-term. Generally speaking, it is sufficient to wash your nose 1-2 times a day.
