What is the cause of back pain? Be alert to disease factors

Sometimes back pain will get better by resting, which is caused by fatigue, cold, and poor posture. But sometimes it is caused by some disease factors, such as arthritis, tumors, osteoporosis, etc. If the situation is serious, it should be checked in time.

1. Causes

Most cases of low back pain are due to muscle contractures, trauma or spinal deformity, but approximately 1 in 10 patients has systemic disease as the cause.

2. Systemic diseases mainly include:

1. Degeneration, protrusion or rupture of intervertebral disc.

2. Arthritis - rheumatoid arthritis or osteoarthritis, ankylosing spondylitis, etc.

3. Skeletal abnormalities - congenital skeletal abnormalities or chondrodysplasia.

4. Tumors - most are metastatic lesions that invade bones or nerve roots, and a few are primary tumors.

5. Osteoporosis - caused by endocrine coordination disorders or long-term bed rest.

6. Back pain may also be caused by local inflammation or intervertebral infection.

7. Others - such as rotation pain, bad mood or kidney disease.

3. Examination and diagnosis

1. Symptoms and Signs

The diagnosis can be made based on clinical symptoms.

1. Pain; 2. Tingling; 3. Numbness or loss of sensation; 4. Poor movement; 5. Muscle spasms; 6. Limited range of motion of lumbar joints, etc. In more serious cases, even incontinence may occur.

2. Differential Diagnosis

1. Cramp is the common name for twitching, which is a manifestation of temporary brain dysfunction. The movement of human muscles is controlled by the brain. When the relevant cells in the brain that manage muscle movement are temporarily overexcited, uncontrollable muscle movement will occur. It can be limited to a certain group of muscles or one side of the body, or spread to the whole body, which is called cramps. The clinical manifestations of cramps and back pain are different, which can clearly differentiate the diagnosis.

2. Spasticity is a movement disorder characterized by a velocity-dependent increase in stretch reflex (muscle tone) and exaggerated tendon reflexes. As a component of upper motor neuron syndrome, it is caused by the hyperexcitability of the stretch reflex.
