What causes retinal hemorrhage

Retinal hemorrhage is a symptom caused by many diseases. It is relatively common in clinical practice, but many people do not know what causes it. Generally speaking, retinal hemorrhage may be caused by systemic diseases and local diseases.

1. The causes of retinal hemorrhage can be divided into two categories: systemic and local. Systemic diseases include diabetic retinopathy, hypertensive retinopathy, nephrotic retinopathy, toxic retinopathy of pregnancy, and even blood system diseases and autoimmune diseases can cause retinal hemorrhage.

2. Local lesions refer to lesions of the fundus itself. Such as central or branch retinal vein occlusion, retinal vasculitis, retinal choroiditis, retinal hemangioma, retinal neurovasculitis, as well as choroidal neovascularization lesions such as age-related macular degeneration, high myopia fundus lesions, and central retinal choroiditis. In addition, posterior vitreous detachment, which often occurs in the elderly, can cause retinal tears due to the vitreous pulling on them, resulting in bleeding. Patients with retinal hemorrhage will experience different symptoms depending on the amount of bleeding and the location of the bleeding.

3. If the amount of bleeding is small, there may be no obvious symptoms in the peripheral part of the retina, such as diabetic retinopathy and retinal blood vessels which are often ignored in the early stages; if the amount of bleeding is large, the patient may feel a floating black shadow in front of his eyes, or even his vision is completely blocked by the black shadow, leaving only the sense of light; if the bleeding is located in the center of the retina (macular area), the patient loses central vision, that is, the central area is unclear and blocked by dark shadows, but there is still some vision in the periphery.
