Symptoms of mild interstitial changes in both lungs

1. Shortness of breath or difficulty breathing: This is a hallmark symptom of interstitial changes in both lungs and is the main cause of anxiety for patients. In the early stage, it only occurs during exertion, but gradually worsens so that shortness of breath is felt during daily activities or even rest.

2. Wheezing and chest tightness: These are not specific symptoms of bilateral interstitial changes in the lungs. Some patients, especially those with severe conditions, experience wheezing. Chest tightness usually occurs after exertion and is related to the isovolumetric contraction of the intercostal muscles due to labored breathing.

3. Systemic symptoms: During the clinical course of the disease, especially in more serious patients, systemic symptoms may occur, such as weight loss, loss of appetite, peripheral muscle atrophy and dysfunction, depression and (or) anxiety, etc.; when combined with infection, symptoms such as coughing up blood or hemoptysis may occur.

4. Chronic cough: Usually the first symptom. The cough is intermittent at first and is more severe in the morning. Later, the cough occurs in the morning and evening or throughout the day, but the cough is not obvious at night. In a few cases, the cough is not accompanied by sputum, and in some cases, there are various obvious airflow limitations but no cough symptoms.
