My eyes hurt and I can't open them, what's going on?

There are various reasons why your eyes cannot be opened all the time. Common ones include viral infections, conjunctivitis, or some small foreign objects entering your eyes, which can cause your eyes to be unable to open or cause a stinging sensation.

1. Common filterable viral infections. If you feel pain in both eyeballs (not counting just one), feel unwell all over, have a slight fever, and have joint pain, then you have the flu. The eye pain caused by this viral infection will subside on its own within 24 to 36 hours, along with other uncomfortable symptoms. ?

2 Conjunctivitis (also known as red eyes or inflammation of any part of the upper and lower eyelids, cornea and optic nerve behind the eyeball (occipital socket) is a common cause of eye pain; infection of any hair follicle on the eyelid or stye is another cause of eye pain.

3. Any small object that gets into your eye, whether it's a hair or a speck of dust, will make you feel like it's as big as a big rock; if your eye is scratched lightly while you're walking through the bushes, forming a small laceration, it will also make you feel unbearable pain in your eye!?

4 Certain types of headaches can also cause eye pain, among which migraine and temporal arteritis are the most common. ?

5. Shingles spreads to the eyes, which not only causes great pain to the eyes, but may even cause blindness. Adults are usually more susceptible to this infection. In the early stages, there is no redness or obvious damage to the eyes. Only in the later stages will typical ulcers appear. ?

6. If eye pain persists for a week or two, then disappears temporarily and then recurs, you should get your eyes checked. Maybe you suffer from astigmatism, farsightedness, or nearsightedness, and wearing glasses of the correct degree can eliminate the symptoms. ?

7. Chronic sinusitis often causes headaches and eye pain. During an attack, the entire face becomes very sensitive and painful to the touch, and there is often a slight fever. The phenomenon of postnasal drip is even more annoying. Sinusitis is usually treated with antibiotics and drainage to drain the pus from the nose. ?
