How to treat severe Guillain-Barré syndrome

Guillain-Barré syndrome is an autoimmune disease of the nervous system. The onset of this disease is very acute, and the treatment of severe Guillain-Barré syndrome must pay attention to symptomatic treatment. There are many ways to treat Guillain-Barré syndrome. In addition to drug treatment, attention should also be paid to lifestyle adjustments.

①Supportive therapy. Nutrition should be strengthened, and those who cannot eat should have a nasogastric tube inserted as soon as possible to feed them milk and high-nutrient substances; the patient's limbs should be moved and gait exercises should be performed, and massage and acupuncture should be performed.

②Symptomatic treatment. The most important thing is to prevent and control respiratory muscle paralysis. Severely ill patients require intubation or tracheotomy, use medical devices to assist breathing, and be given antibiotics to prevent infection. The key to reducing the mortality rate is to keep the airway open and turn the patient over and pat his back regularly.

③ The use of large doses of immunoglobulin has better efficacy, fewer side effects, and is safe, but it is expensive. In the acute progressive stage, when the patient's immune function is hyperactive and there is no concurrent infection or other contraindications, hormones can be used, intravenous drip in the early stage, and then oral administration. If respiratory muscle paralysis has occurred and assisted breathing and immune function are low, and respiratory tract infection has occurred, it is best not to use it. Some people use intrathecal injection of dexamethasone to increase the drug concentration at the site of nerve root lesions, which may be more beneficial to improving the lesions. Some people believe that plasma exchange therapy has certain therapeutic effects, especially for young patients, and the effect is better when used early.

④ Traditional Chinese medicine believes that this disease belongs to the category of "impotence". The causes of the disease are mostly due to summer dampness and damp heat; the pathogenesis is that damp heat invades the meridians, relaxes the tendons and veins, and damages the liver, kidney and spleen over time, resulting in loss of essence and blood, and disorders of muscles, tendons and bones. The treatments are mostly based on methods such as clearing away heat and dampness, moistening dryness and relaxing tendons, activating blood circulation and unblocking collaterals, invigorating Qi and strengthening the spleen, nourishing the liver and kidneys, and distributing essence to cure impotence.
