What are the symptoms of Zika virus

Zika virus is a common viral disease in South America. It was first isolated from monkeys and can cause infection in humans. Immediately after the onset of the disease, the patient will have a low fever, maculopapular skin manifestations, joint pain, conjunctivitis, muscle pain, headache and other symptoms, which are very similar to the common cold.

1. Fever

However, Zika virus rarely causes high fever, usually a low-grade fever between 37.5 degrees and 38.5 degrees.

2. Maculopapular rash.

A type of rash. There is redness of the skin around the pimples.

3. Joint pain,

Small joints like the hands and feet.

4. Non-purulent conjunctivitis

That is, there is congestion but very little discharge.

5. Other infection syndrome pain

Myalgia, headache, orbital pain, weakness; abdominal pain, nausea and vomiting, mucosal ulcers, and skin itching.

If you have a travel history to South America and develop 2 or more symptoms within 3-12 days, you may be suspected of being infected with the Zika virus.

Like most viral infections, there is currently no effective treatment for Zika virus. After humans are infected, the most effective treatment is to rest and drink water to reduce the occurrence of complications. Humans have developed vaccines for some influenza viruses, but there is no vaccine available for Zika virus. What we can do now is to reduce visits to relevant epidemic areas, avoid contact with mosquitoes, and protect ourselves.
