How long can the first polio vaccine be delayed?

How long can the first polio vaccine be delayed?

The polio vaccine is usually injected according to the child's age. The best time is usually two months, and the latest injection is when the child is three months old. Each injection should be chosen according to the child's actual physical condition. If necessary, you can consult a doctor to see if it can be postponed. When injecting vaccines, it is not recommended to postpone unless there are special circumstances, because postponement may be counterproductive or cause many adverse effects.

Dosage

Oral sugar pills: Infants usually take one pill each at 2, 4, and 6 months of age. At the age of 1.5 to 2 years, 4 years and 7 years, take 1 pill each (take directly or dissolve in cold boiled water).

Oral liquid vaccine: 3 doses for initial immunization, starting from the second month after birth, 2 drops each time, with an interval of 4 to 6 weeks, and a booster dose at 4 years old or before school entry. The vaccine can be dropped directly into the baby's mouth or on biscuits for oral administration.

Influencing factors

After three doses of vaccination, the protection rate can reach more than 90%. The positive rate of type 3 antibody in serum can reach over 95%. At the same time, antibodies can prevent wild viruses from surviving in the intestines. Diarrhea and cold chain storage conditions are factors that affect the effectiveness of vaccines.

Precautions

If you have fever, abnormally weak constitution, severe rickets, active tuberculosis or other serious illnesses, or have diarrhea 4 times a day within 1 week, you should temporarily suspend taking the medicine. HIV infection, dysgammaglobulinemia, lymphoma, leukemia, extensive malignant lesions and other immunodeficiencies (such as taking corticosteroids, anticancer drugs, immunosuppressive drugs or receiving radiation, etc.) are contraindicated.

1. This vaccine can only be taken orally, not injected. It is best to delay its use when suffering from gastrointestinal diseases.

2. The polio vaccine is in the form of sugar pills or liquids. It is afraid of heat and will become ineffective when exposed to heat. Therefore, do not take the medicine with hot water. When taking the medicine, first crush the sugar pill with a spoon or chopsticks, or dissolve the sugar pill in cold boiled water (do not use hot boiled water) with a spoon and take it. Older children can swallow it directly.

3. It is best to stop breastfeeding within two hours after taking the vaccine (you can use milk or other milk substitutes), otherwise the antibodies in the breast milk will neutralize (kill) the vaccine and affect its effectiveness.

4. If vomiting occurs while taking the medicine, take it again.

5. There are generally no adverse reactions after taking the medicine, only a few mild gastrointestinal symptoms.

6. People with high fever, impaired immunity, or those who are taking corticosteroids or anti-cancer drugs should not take the myelitis vaccine.

7. For those with contraindications, 0.3 ml/kg body weight of immunoglobulin can be injected once a day for 2 to 3 days.

8. Once the disease occurs, you should go to the hospital for isolation and treatment in time, report to the health and epidemic prevention station, disinfect the epidemic site, and place close contacts under medical observation for 20 days. Those who have not taken the vaccine or have taken incomplete vaccines should take them immediately.
