What is the reason for the nails to become thick and have white powder?

Thickening of the nails or the presence of white powder may be symptoms of onychomycosis. Generally, onychomycosis can easily cause the nails to become thicker or yellower, and white powder will appear in the middle layer of the nails, causing the nails to slowly become diseased, which is very harmful to the health of the nails. It usually requires medication for treatment. You should also pay more attention to the maintenance of the nails and try not to apply nail polish, as nail polish contains pigments that will harm the health of the nails.

reason

Thickening of nails with white powder is a sign of onychomycosis, which is caused by fungal infection.

treat

In fact, onychomycosis is not difficult to treat. The most important thing is to go to the dermatology department of a regular hospital to receive correct treatment. Patients should know more about onychomycosis treatment so that they can discuss with their doctors the treatment plan that best suits them. It will also be easier for them to understand the doctor's treatment intentions and better cooperate with the doctor to cure the disease.

Drug treatment

The traditional treatment for onychomycosis is to scrape the brittle diseased nail with a knife before using the medicine, or to thin the diseased nail and then apply 5% iodine tincture or 10-30% glacial acetic acid solution. This method will take at least a year to be effective. Many patients often discontinue treatment due to the color of iodine, the smell of glacial acetic acid and the long treatment period. Moreover, the dense structure of the nail itself hinders the penetration of topical drugs. Therefore, the cure rate of topical drugs alone is low, and they are currently mainly used in combination with oral drugs.

Fungal onychomycosis

A tinea-like disease characterized by thickening of the nails, dark gray color, or the appearance of yellow and white spots, and loss of luster. Commonly known as "onychomycosis", it is called "goose claw wind" in traditional Chinese medicine and now it is called onychomycosis. It is caused by infection of a large class of microorganisms called pathogenic fungi. Onychomycosis lesions begin at the distal end, lateral edge or nail fold of the nail, and manifest as abnormal nail color and shape. Onychomycosis is also known as onychomycosis and onychomycosis. It is the most common disease of the nail, accounting for more than half of the nail diseases. Both fingernails and toenails can be affected, but toenails are more susceptible.

Causes of fungal onychomycosis

1. Personal factors: Generally speaking, young and middle-aged men and women are more likely to suffer from the disease; those who love sports and activities are also likely to suffer from the disease. Ringworm is not inherited, and it is not clear whether there is a family susceptibility. Personal hygiene habits are directly related to ringworm. People who change clothes and take baths frequently are less likely to suffer from ringworm; people who wash in public bathrooms and swim in swimming pools with poor hygiene conditions are more likely to be infected with ringworm. People who keep pets such as cats and dogs are prone to infection by ringworm fungi on their pets. People who sweat a lot are prone to ringworm. Ringworm is common in patients with certain chronic diseases such as malnutrition, hyperthyroidism, and diabetes, and the symptoms are also more severe. Some serious illnesses, such as AIDS and advanced cancer patients, not only have a high incidence of fungal ringworm, but the ringworm is also widely distributed, has strange manifestations, and is very stubborn and difficult to cure. This is one of the main causes of onychomycosis.

2. Environmental factors: High temperature and high humidity are important conditions for the high incidence of onychomycosis. Therefore, ringworm diseases in summer and rainy season are more common and more severe than those in winter and dry season. Some drought-resistant and cold-resistant tinea onychomycosis fungi can still cause disease in cold and dry seasons, which is more common in northern my country. The patient's work and living environment should not be ignored. The incidence rate is lower in well-ventilated places than in enclosed, stuffy and humid places. The incidence rate is higher in crowded places, and lower in opposite places. This is the main cause of onychomycosis.

3. Genetics : This is also a major cause of onychomycosis. A chronic dermatophyte syndrome caused by Trichophyton rubrum has been reported abroad. The patient also suffers from tinea manuum, tinea pedis, onychomycosis, tinea cruris, multiple tinea corporis and follicular psoriasis. The disease has a long course and is stubborn and difficult to treat. According to the investigation, it is related to autosomal dominant inheritance. When underwear is too thick and tight, it can easily induce jock itch and buttock tinea. People who often sit on the toilet are more likely to suffer from buttock ringworm than those who do not. People who do not shower immediately after swimming are prone to tinea corporis and tinea versicolor (sweat spots). In addition, people who bathe too frequently and like to scratch are also more likely to suffer from ringworm. This is because excessive bathing damages the protective layer of the epidermis; frequent scratching not only causes scratches, but also easily implants fungal dandruff into the affected area or spreads it to other places.
