Is solder harmful to the human body?

Solder is a substance generally needed in the process of soldering things using soldering iron or other welding tools. If you smell an unpleasant odor when using solder during the welding process, it means that it is volatile and can be easily inhaled into the body, which can be very harmful to our body because it is actually called lead-tin solder. I don't think I need to elaborate on the harm of lead to the human body, so if we cannot avoid using solder for welding, we can take some measures to reduce the harm of solder to our body.

Children suffering from lead poisoning may experience developmental delay, loss of appetite, difficulty walking, constipation, and insomnia; if they are elementary school students, they may also suffer from hyperactivity, hearing impairment, inattention, and mental retardation. This is because after lead enters the human body, it invades the brain's nerve tissue through the blood, causing insufficient supply of nutrients and oxygen, resulting in damage to brain tissue. In severe cases, it may lead to lifelong disability. So we should have good ventilation equipment when welding. To ensure our own safety.

What harm does soldering do to the human body

1. The main manifestations of the nervous system are neurasthenia, multiple neuropathies and encephalopathy.

2. Digestive system: Mild cases may present with general digestive tract symptoms, while severe cases may present with abdominal colic.

3. In the blood system, lead interferes with the synthesis of hemoglobin, causing changes in its metabolites, such as decreased blood δ-ALAD activity, increased urine δ-ALA, increased urine CP, increased blood FEP and ZPP, etc., which eventually lead to anemia, mostly hypochromic normocytic anemia.

4. Other systemic lead damage to the kidneys is more common in acute, subacute lead poisoning or more severe chronic cases, with the appearance of amino acid proteinuria, red blood cells, white blood cells and casts and renal dysfunction, indicating toxic nephropathy, accompanied by hypertension. Female workers are more sensitive to lead, especially during pregnancy and lactation, which can cause infertility, miscarriage, premature birth, stillbirth and lead poisoning in infants. Male labor can cause a decrease in sperm count, weakened activity and changes in morphology. In addition, it can also cause hypothyroidism.

How harmful is solder to the human body?

1. Acute poisoning

It is reported that the minimum concentration of acute poisoning caused by tin-contaminated canned food and fruit is 50 mg/kg. It has also been reported that people who consumed canned fruit with tin contamination concentrations of 563 mg/kg or 400 mg/kg developed clinical symptoms of acute gastroenteritis such as nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea. This needs to be differentiated from acute bacterial gastroenteritis and symptomatic supportive treatment should be given.

2. Tin Pneumoconiosis

Tin smelting workers working in an environment with a tin fume concentration of 9.362 mg/m3 may develop tin pneumoconiosis. Clinically, there are few symptoms such as cough, sputum, and chest tightness, and most patients have no changes in lung function. The typical chest X-ray shows clusters of round or quasi-round small spot-like shadows widely distributed in both lung fields, resembling small osmanthus flowers with petals, but not fused with each other. Their diameter can reach 3 to 5 mm, with high density and sharp edges.

The hilum of the lung is usually not enlarged. The lung texture is mostly unrecognizable or only vaguely visible. Ten to fifteen years after diagnosis, the spotted shadows in the lung fields on both sides gradually become smaller, the density decreases, the number also decreases, the lung fields gradually become clearer, but the density of the hilum gradually increases. After 25 to 30 years, metallic block shadows of various shapes will form at the hilum of the lung, while the lung fields will be basically clear.

3. Chronic effects

Workers who are exposed to tin tetrachloride for a long time may experience respiratory irritation and digestive tract symptoms, such as nausea, upper abdominal discomfort, constipation, and sometimes shoulder and foot pain. Tin tetrachloride can also cause skin ulcers and eczema.

Solder Hazard Solutions

1. Take a break. Generally, you need to take a 15-minute break after one hour of training to relieve fatigue, because your resistance is the weakest when you are tired.

2. Smoke less and drink more water so that most of the harmful substances absorbed can be eliminated during the day.

3. Drink mung bean soup or honey water before going to bed. This can reduce internal heat and help your mood. Mung beans and honey can also eliminate a large amount of absorbed lead and radiation!

4. Avoid using the phone as much as possible to avoid radiation. Use your cell phone less often. When you go out, you can't use your cell phone. Here are some suggestions for you.

5. Make the soldering iron brighter and try to use a PPD soldering tip so that when the temperature reaches a certain level, you can use less soldering oil and rosin to reduce the harm to your body.

6. When the soldering oil and soldering tin are smoking, try to tilt your head to the side and hold your breath when brushing the ceiling.

7. Use less thinner and more alcohol. Use alcohol to brush for a longer time and the effect will be similar.

8. Wash your hands

9. Take a shower before going to bed. Go to bed early and get up early to ensure adequate sleep. As long as you sleep well, impurities can basically be discharged from the body.

10. Newbies who are just starting to practice handicrafts can wear a mask when practicing. Practicing handicrafts every day will take a long time, which is the period that is most harmful to the body, so a mask is a must!
