What are the symptoms of intestinal spasm in adults

Intestinal spasm, also known as intestinal cramps, is actually a common gastrointestinal disease. It is mainly caused by nerve abnormalities or hormonal influences, which lead to intestinal contraction. When this symptom occurs, it often causes abdominal pain in patients, and sometimes it recurs, which is very harmful to patients. For this disease, it is necessary to find the cause and then treat it symptomatically.

Symptoms

(1) If paroxysmal, intermittent abdominal pain occurs suddenly, and no abnormal physical signs are found during the intervals, then this is the main feature of this disease. The child's abdominal pain may last for several minutes or tens of minutes, coming and going. After repeated attacks for tens of minutes or hours, the abdominal pain may no longer occur.

(2) The recurrent abdominal pain may last for several days. The severity of the pain varies. In severe cases, the patient may roll over on the ground. In typical cases, the abdominal pain is often mainly located around the navel, that is, the spasm occurs in the small intestine. When spasm occurs in the proximal large intestine, the pain is in the right lower abdomen; when spasm occurs in the distal large intestine, pain occurs in the left lower abdomen; if the child has abdominal pain before defecation, it may be spasm of the descending colon or sigmoid colon.

(3) The colic may occur in the ribs, usually on one side, due to spasm of the hepatic flexure or splenic flexure of the colon. Younger people may also experience colic in the abdominal area under the xiphoid process, due to spasm of the stomach. Strictly speaking, this is not intestinal spasm but gastric spasm. However, because the mechanism of their occurrence is similar, massage treatment for intestinal spasm is also effective.

Introduction

Intestinal cramps, medically known as "intestinal spasm", are a gastrointestinal disease. When the intestines cramp, the pain is so severe that one cannot straighten their backs. Most patients have to take painkillers or get injections to temporarily relieve the pain. However, this is not a cure. The cause of the disease must be found and it must be determined whether the symptoms are caused by structural or functional diseases.

In the United States, this common illness is second only to the common cold as the reason most people take sick leave.

Intestinal activity is controlled by complex nerves and intestinal hormones. When there is a blockage, the intestine will naturally "contract" and accelerate peristalsis in the hope of expelling the obstruction. The moment the intestine contracts, ischemic pain will occur, causing abdominal cramps.

Intestinal cramps often occur in the navel or under the ribs, and many of them are extremely painful. Child patients will cry and be restless, sweat and roll around, but the duration is not long, usually a few minutes to tens of minutes, and then everything is normal and they can talk, laugh, eat and play. Intestinal cramps are like swimming cramps. The blood vessels contract under the stimulation of cold. Insufficient blood supply can cause spasms in the intestinal wall muscles.
