How are venous sinuses formed

When it comes to venous sinuses, many people don't know much about them. In fact, they are closely related to vertebrates. They refer to the vascular cavity formed by the confluence of large veins near the heart of vertebrates. We should have a full understanding of this so that we can better understand its structure and function. The venous sinus has two meanings, and people can understand it based on their own knowledge. Interested friends can learn more about the relevant knowledge.

1. Venous sinus

venous sinus A vascular cavity in vertebrates formed by the confluence of large veins near the heart. It has contractile muscular walls that carry venous blood into the atria. The venous sinuses of amphibians and reptiles open into the right atrium. The sinuses of reptiles are small and cannot be seen from the outside of the heart. In the embryonic stage of birds and mammals, the primordium of the sinus venosus can be seen, but later it merges with the right atrium and becomes part of the right atrium.

2. Meaning 1

In vertebrates, the lumen of the blood vessels formed by the confluence of large veins near the heart.

3. Meaning 2

The dural venous sinuses, also known as the dural sinuses, are two layers of the dura mater that separate in certain locations and are lined with endothelial cells, forming special intracranial venous ducts that transport intracranial venous blood. There are no valves in the sinus, and the sinus wall has no smooth muscle and cannot contract, so the dura mater sinus is damaged and there is a lot of bleeding.

IV. Venous Sinus Thrombosis

Cerebral venous sinus thrombosis (CVST) is a special type of cerebrovascular disease, accounting for less than 1% of all strokes. It is usually more common in children and young adults, and among children, the lateral sinus and cavernous sinus caused by infection are more common. Patients with suppurative otitis media and mastoiditis are prone to thrombosis of the transverse portion of lateral sinus and sigmoid portion of lateral sinus, collectively referred to as lateral sinus thrombosis. According to the nature of the lesion, CVST can be divided into two types: inflammatory and non-inflammatory. In the inflammatory type, the cavernous and transverse sinuses are the most commonly affected sites. In non-inflammatory type, the superior sagittal sinus is most likely to be affected. Transverse sigmoid sinus thrombosis is often secondary to suppurative mastoiditis or otitis media.
