Why does the bathroom always smell?

Why does the bathroom always smell?

In addition to urinating and defecating in the bathroom, people may also do many other things in the bathroom, such as taking a bath in the bathroom, and daily washing is also completed in the bathroom, so the bathroom is a very important space environment in the family. If there is a bad smell in the bathroom, it will be very harmful. It will not only endanger health, but also affect people's mood. So what is the cause of the bad smell in the bathroom?

Why does the bathroom always smell?

1. Health blind spots

Some corners of the bathroom, such as the gap between the bottom of the bathroom cabinet and the ground, the gap on the back of the toilet, etc., are not easy to clean and are easily overlooked in daily cleaning. In addition, the bathroom is humid, and dandruff, hair and other debris accumulated in the dead corners breed bacteria and produce odor.

2. The floor drain is not sealed tightly or the water seal fails

Floor drains can be divided into water-seal type floor drains and mechanical seal type floor drains according to the sealing method. The water-seal type floor drain is sealed by an "S"-shaped trap. The trap must be deep enough to achieve effective sealing. If the water seal structure is too shallow or the water in the trap evaporates, the sealing effect will be lost, causing odor leakage. The mechanical seal type floor drain is sealed by gravity or water pressure to press the sealing valve to open and close. If there is a problem with the opening and closing structure, such as hair entanglement or blockage by debris, the seal will also fail. In addition, residues such as bathing hair in the shower room flow into the floor drain sewer pipe and remain on the wall of the floor drain for a long time. After deteriorating and becoming smelly, they can also cause odor in the bathroom.

3. The sink drain pipe smells bad

The drain outlet of the wash basin is connected to the sewer pipe through a drain pipe, and there are three main places where odor is likely to occur. First, the drain pipe is directly inserted into the sewer pipe and there is no seal at the joint; second, the drain pipe does not have an S-shaped water trap seal, or there is a sealing device inside the drain pipe but it is entangled with foreign objects such as hair, causing the seal to fail; third, hair and other residues adhere to the wall of the drain pipe, which deteriorates over time and creates a foul odor.

4. Toilet smell

When installing the toilet, an "H"-shaped flange is used to seal the toilet and the sewer pipe, and glue is used to fix and seal the part where the toilet contacts the ground. If the toilet is misaligned with the sewage pipe during installation, or the flange of the toilet is not sealed tightly against the pipe, or the flange is not installed properly, and the sealant between the toilet body and the ground falls off, the smell of the sewer will emanate from the gap. In addition, some toilets have two small holes on the back. If the bottom and the PVC sewage pipe are not sealed, foul smells will come out.

5. Odor backflow from the exhaust vent

Generally, developers will install a check valve or one-way valve at the air duct opening when handing over the house. The air can only flow from the bathroom into the pipe and cannot flow back. If it is not installed, it must be installed when the exhaust fan is installed at home. It only costs a few dozen dollars each. At the same time, the exhaust fan must also be installed properly and the air should be ventilated frequently.

6. Water accumulation in hollow floor tiles

When laying tiles on the bathroom floor, due to improper construction, after the cement under the tiles dries, large gaps appear between the cement layer and the tiles, which make a "hollow" sound when tapped with a hard object, which is called "hollowing". When taking a shower, water will flow through the gaps in the tiles into the hollow spaces between the tiles and the cement layer. There is a waterproof layer under the cement layer, so the water in the hollow spaces is difficult to evaporate naturally. Over time, it will form stagnant water that is difficult to dissipate and eventually become smelly.

7. No secondary drainage treatment (for sunken toilets)

What is secondary drainage? ——It is the drainage below the waterproof layer below the bathroom floor tile mortar, that is, the secondary drainage in the caisson.

Secondary drainage can discharge the water from cement mortar or sedimentation tank in time, keeping the toilet dry and changing the odor of domestic water accumulated for a long time in the next year. (This drainage construction is very important, but it is often overlooked by many decorators, mainly because the construction process is too troublesome and the construction technology is not up to standard.) If your home has a sunken bathroom, you must pay attention.
