The harm of drinking hot water from a plastic cup

When buying a cup to drink water, people usually choose to buy a glass cup, because most of the time the water we drink is hot water, the temperature of hot water is very high, and the glass cup will not melt even if it encounters a high temperature. But if we use a plastic cup, it will smell like polyethylene. This chemical is very harmful to our body, so what are the hazards of drinking water from a plastic cup?

1. Is it harmful to drink hot water from a plastic cup?

1. There are many kinds of plastics. It is hard to tell whether they are harmful or not. If you replace plastic with ceramics, glass or metal, the answer is the same: they may be harmful, so it is meaningless.

2. If it is used for more than two years, it is recommended to use glass and ceramics, as plastics have aging problems;

3. According to the above standards, there are several types of plastics that can be used, including PP (No. 5), HDPE (No. 2) and imitation porcelain plastics. The first type of PP is the most common in the food industry, which is a special plastic for microwave ovens. In the regular processing process, they will not contain excessive amounts of harmful substances;

4. The main concern is plastic No. 1

PET and No. 7 plastic PC. PET, which is the mineral water bottle, will become soft when heated. It seems harmful, but it is actually not a big deal. The problem with PC is bisphenol A, but if you look at it rationally, the bisphenol A that can actually be released will not affect the health of adults. However, existing evidence shows that infants are more sensitive to bisphenol A, so it is recommended that pregnant women and young children use it less.

5. Among the common plastics, there is also a kind of PS polystyrene, which is the material of foam lunch boxes and beverage cups on airplanes. Theoretically, it is not suitable for long-term use because its aging resistance is worse. So the conclusion is that some plastics can be used to hold hot water for a long time, but others need to be used with caution.
