Dental health is a very important matter in life, because teeth play a very important role and are directly connected to nerves. Once damaged, they may cause severe pain. The dental problem among children is often manifested as supernumerary teeth, which is a tooth shape that affects oral development but does not cause too much impact on the body. So, is it necessary to extract supernumerary teeth? The harm of supernumerary teeth is that if they grow in the dentition, they will occupy the position of normal teeth. Since normal teeth are squeezed out by the supernumerary teeth, they have to grow out from the side of the gums, resulting in disordered tooth arrangement. If supernumerary teeth grow outside the dentition, double teeth will be formed with gaps between the two teeth, causing food debris to be trapped and impacted, leading to inflammation of the gum tissue and even causing tooth decay. The impact of supernumerary teeth: It is generally believed that the cause of supernumerary teeth is the excessive length of the dental lamina and the division of the permanent tooth germs; some people also believe that it is caused by the residual epithelium of the broken dental lamina. It occurs most frequently in the maxillary anterior teeth area, and most of it is distributed within the maxillary central incisor range, centered on the midline. The distribution decreases as it moves distally. Supernumerary teeth in the mandible are rare. The occurrence of supernumerary teeth aggravates the imbalance of tooth and bone mass. Since they occupy the position of normal teeth, they often lead to the occurrence of malocclusion, which is manifested as wide tooth spaces, crowding, twisting, and misalignment of the front teeth, delayed eruption of adjacent teeth, affecting the development of the roots of permanent teeth and causing root curvature, and even crooked teeth and impacted permanent teeth. Supernumerary teeth mainly affect the development of permanent teeth and the arrangement of dentition, causing impacted teeth, preventing them from erupting normally, causing delayed eruption of permanent teeth, eruption disorders, and preventing teeth from arranging in their normal position; uneven tooth arrangement, gaps between teeth, shifting and twisting, etc., affecting the appearance. Supernumerary teeth should be discovered and treated early. Generally, supernumerary teeth that can erupt into the mouth can be seen with the naked eye, while supernumerary teeth that are buried in the jawbone and do not erupt can only be discovered through X-ray examination. Therefore, regular inspections of baby's teeth play a very important role. If supernumerary teeth can be discovered and removed early, the impact on the permanent dentition will be reduced. The presence of supernumerary teeth during the mixed dentition period often makes it difficult for permanent teeth to erupt or shift, and they should be extracted in a timely manner. |
