Temperature and humidity for cigar storage

Temperature and humidity for cigar storage

Many smokers are addicted to nicotine. The main flavor of cigarettes is tobacco. Many wealthy people smoke expensive cigarettes because expensive cigarettes can not only reflect their wealth, but also have less harm to the human body. Cigars are an expensive type of cigarettes, and their storage is also very demanding. So, what is the ideal temperature and humidity for cigar storage?

Cigars should be stored in a humidor at an optimal humidity and temperature. Stable temperature and humidity control are key to preserving cigars. Similarly, when storing cigars, they should be avoided from being affected by other strong smells or perfumes (such as paint, gasoline, etc.).

Temperature and humidity

The Double 70 rule, 70 degrees Fahrenheit (21 degrees Celsius), and 70% humidity are often considered ideal conditions for storing cigars, although these values can be slightly lower for Cuban cigars. The temperature should be controlled between 16 and 18 degrees Celsius. Temperatures above 18 degrees may cause cigar worms to hatch or become active. If the temperature is continuously above 25 degrees, it will damage the cigars.

Low temperature will slow down the aging process of cigars, and if the temperature is below 15 degrees, it will be detrimental to the aging of cigars.

Humidity should be controlled between 65% and 70%. High humidity can cause mildew or cracks in the cigar wrapper, while low humidity can dry out the cigar. Humidity that is consistently above 75% or consistently below 60% can damage the cigar.

Cigar Aging

Traditionally, cigar smokers generally believe that cigars should not be smoked within the first year after production. Since 2006, Habanos has adopted modern technology and has better control over the quality of cigars, resulting in newly produced cigars being enjoyed earlier.
