People with gout can drink more tea

We know that people who like to drink alcohol and eat seafood are prone to gout. This is a purine metabolism disorder and is classified as arthritis. Because gout patients have increased uric acid synthesis or decreased excretion, they develop hyperuricemia, which in turn causes an inflammatory response to foreign bodies in tissues. Drinking tea is very good for your health. Tea has the effects of refreshing the mind, improving cardiovascular and cerebrovascular function, and lowering blood sugar and blood pressure. So, can people with gout drink more tea?

1. Can people with gout drink tea?

In the past, people believed that tea contains theanine, whose molecular structure is methylxanthine, which will be converted into uric acid after metabolism in the human body, thereby increasing the risk of gout. However, studies in recent years have shown that tea alkali is metabolized in the human body to form methylurate, which has a different molecular structure from urate and will not deposit to form tophi. The substance produced by methylxanthine metabolism in the body is methylurate, which is different from urate. It will not deposit in the kidneys and joints, nor will it form tophi. In addition, tea is weakly alkaline, and drinking it in moderation can help the body excrete uric acid and alkaline urine. From this point of view, drinking tea regularly and in moderation is helpful in preventing hyperuricemia and gout.

2. Precautions for drinking tea for gout

Although gout patients can drink tea, they are reminded not to drink too much tea. There should be a limit. And when choosing tea, they must choose some light ones and not choose too strong tea. It is recommended that gout patients drink more green tea, Pu'er tea and other teas. Therefore, gout patients must be careful not to drink too much tea when drinking it.

3. Dietary Tips for Gout Patients

1. Drink plenty of water, keep it between 1500 and 3000 ml per day, drink it in small amounts multiple times to help excrete uric acid.

2. Do not drink alcohol. Alcohol can easily cause lactic acid accumulation in the body, which inhibits the excretion of uric acid and can easily induce gout. Strictly abstain from alcohol. Beer and seafood are absolutely prohibited. Beer itself contains alcohol, which will affect the excretion of uric acid; and during the oxidation process of alcohol, some substances will be produced that increase uric acid.

3. Avoid eating large amounts of high-purine foods and consuming large amounts of seafood in a short period of time. Large amounts of purine will cause uric acid to rise sharply. Although our dietary factors only account for 10% to 20% of uric acid, eating a large amount of seafood in a short period of time will cause a sharp increase in uric acid. Drinking alcohol will affect excretion and aggravate gout.

4. Protein can be consumed in proportion to body weight. 0.8 to 1 gram of protein should be consumed for every 1 kilogram of body weight, and milk and eggs should be the main sources. If it is lean meat, chicken, duck, etc., it should be boiled and then the soup should be removed before eating.

5. There is no limit on the amount of vegetables, fruits and milk in the diet, but eat less salt, which should be limited to 2 grams to 5 grams per day.

6. The daily diet structure should be mainly composed of carbohydrates, which can promote the excretion of uric acid. You can choose refined white rice, enriched flour, corn, steamed bread, noodles, etc.
