Yunnan Pu'er Tea Types

Yunnan Pu'er Tea Types

Yunnan is rich in various famous teas, among which Pu'er tea is the most famous. This tea is completely different from traditional famous teas in terms of taste and nutrition. It tastes slightly lighter and does not have the bitterness of ordinary tea. After taking a sip, you can clearly feel a sweet aftertaste lingering in your mouth. The health benefits of Pu'er tea are also excellent. It has the effect of losing weight and lowering blood lipids. Let’s take a look at the types of Yunnan Pu'er tea.

1. Classification by production method

Raw tea: It is fermented naturally after picking, and the tea is more stimulating. After being stored for many years, the tea will become milder. Good old Pu'er is usually made using this method.

Ripe tea: Using science and artificial fermentation methods to make the tea mild and soft, making the tea taste good. The dividing point is after 1973.

2. According to the storage form, dry storage and wet storage

Dry-stored Pu'er refers to Pu'er tea that is stored in a ventilated, dry and clean warehouse to allow the tea to ferment naturally. It is best to age it for 10 to 20 years.

Wet-stored Pu'er: Usually placed in a relatively humid place, such as a basement or cellar, to speed up its fermentation. Because the contents of tea are more damaged, it often has a muddy or moldy smell. Although the aging speed of wet-stored Pu'er is faster than that of dry-stored Pu'er, it is prone to mold and is harmful to human health. Therefore, we do not advocate the sale and drinking of wet-stored Pu'er. The aging speed is faster than dry-stored Pu'er. It is best to store it for 5 to 10 years.

3. Classification by appearance

Tea Cake: Flat disc-shaped, each of the seven-piece cake has a net weight of 357g, and every 7 pieces form a tube, with a net weight of 2500g each, hence the name "Seven-piece Cake".

Tuocha: It is shaped like a rice bowl, with a net weight of 100g or 250g each. Now there are also mini Tuocha, with a net weight of 2g-5g each.

Brick tea: It is rectangular or square, mostly weighing 250g-1000g. It is made into this shape mainly for easy transportation.

Golden Gourd Tribute Tea: Pressed into half-melon shapes of varying sizes, ranging from 100g to several kilograms.

Qianliang Tea: Pressed into compacted strips of varying sizes, each strip is relatively heavy (the smallest one weighs around 50kg).

Loose tea: refers to Pu'er tea that has not been pressed into shape during the tea making process and is in the form of loose tea leaves. Loose tea includes leaf tea with thick and thick strips made from whole tea leaves, and bud tip tea with small strips made from the bud tips.
