Shelf life of Pu'er tea

Shelf life of Pu'er tea

With the improvement of modern living standards, people's various life requirements have been greatly met. For example, in the past, precious tea drinks were out of reach for ordinary people, but now various famous teas have become standard in more and more families. Among them, Pu'er tea is a very popular one. This tea originates in Yunnan Province, and its shape and taste are completely different from ordinary tea. Let’s take a look at the shelf life of Pu’er tea.

Under normal circumstances, food within its shelf life will not deteriorate. However, if the storage environment does not meet the requirements, the taste, smell and appearance of the food will change very quickly, and the food may go bad even if it has not exceeded its shelf life. The same goes for Pu'er tea. It cannot be said that it can be eaten indefinitely just because it has no shelf life. Instead, it depends on whether it is stored in a dry, ventilated, odor-free environment that is suitable for its storage. Otherwise, even Pu'er tea without a shelf life will still deteriorate due to the influence of the external environment (not only the color, aroma and taste of the tea will become lighter, and the tea flavor will change due to aging, but even the tea will become moldy and become inedible after absorbing odors).

Pu'er tea has the reputation of "getting more fragrant as it ages". Some people also say that tea in the traditional sense also has no shelf life. It is just that tea can absorb odors and moisture, causing "chemical changes" in the tea's interior, changing its taste and causing it to go bad.

If Pu'er tea is properly stored, it will become more fragrant as it ages. However, when you buy Pu'er tea, you will find that there is a shelf life marked on the outer packaging of Pu'er tea. This is because regulations require food to be labeled. In fact, consumers do not need to pay attention to this when drinking Pu'er tea. In addition, if you find that the tea has a musty smell, it is usually caused by improper storage and should not be purchased.

New Pu'er tea has a strong and stimulating taste, which may be unfamiliar to people who are used to drinking high mountain tea or Pu'er tea. Because old Pu'er tea has been stored for a long time and has undergone a long period of post-oxidation, its nature becomes milder and non-irritating. It can promote blood metabolism without irritating the stomach. It is said to be able to nourish health, help qi, and replenish qi. The longer it is stored, the higher the degree of oxidation and the mellower the taste of the tea.
