Why does my urine smell so bad?

When people talk about urine, they think it is a kind of excrement of the body and it is disgusting to talk about it. But you should know that although urine is a product of human metabolism, it is also a barometer of physical condition and is closely related to a person's physical health. Many people experience a strong odor in their urine when they urinate. Does this mean that the body is unhealthy or that there is something wrong with their organs? There is a lot of knowledge in it. Therefore, in daily life, we should pay attention to changes in the five internal organs of the body. So why does urine smell bad? Let’s find out together.

Unusual smell of urine

Fresh urine has a distinctive, faint aromatic odor, but pee can have other odors as well.

1. Ammonia smell

This indicates that the urine has been broken down in the body and is a sign of cystitis or urinary retention. When urine is left for too long, due to bacterial growth, urea is decomposed and an ammonia smell is produced.

2. Apple scent

It is more common in diabetic acidosis or hunger. This kind of urine can often attract ants to gather.

3. Corruption and stench

Common in cystitis and suppurative pyelitis.

4. Fecal odor

Patients with cystocolitis often have a fecal odor in their urine.

5. Foul odor

What is the reason for long-term yellow urine with odor?

1. Prostatitis

Prostatitis generally presents with frequent urination, urgent urination, painful urination, redness and swelling of the urethra, stinging and purulent secretions. Some diseases can cause urine to have an unpleasant odor; maculopapular rashes, small pustules, one or more skin and mucosal ulcers, etc. may appear in the genital area.

2. Cystitis:

The diagnosis of acute cystitis requires a midstream urine test in addition to medical history and physical signs. There are pus cells and red blood cells in the urine, and the urine is yellow.

3. Urethritis:

Some urethritis patients may also suffer from long-term yellow urine, so this should be taken seriously. If you encounter this situation, you should go to the hospital for a check-up.

4. Liver disease:

When the liver is diseased, the urine will usually take on a strong tea color. Since the kidneys cannot break down the above-mentioned bilirubin, etc., they will be excreted from the body with urine, causing the urine to be yellow and last for a long time. In the early stages of hepatitis, before jaundice appears, we often see yellow urine with an odor, which is often a sign of hepatitis.

5. Getting angry:

Yellow urine with an unpleasant odor may also be caused by eating too much hot food and getting a sore throat. This situation is not serious, just drink some herbal tea to reduce the heat.

6. Drink less water:

Some people don’t like to drink water and only drink one or two glasses of water a day. Such people are also prone to having yellow urine with an odor for a long time. This is very unhealthy for your body.

What should I do if my urine has an odor?

Drink more water.

Don’t wait until you are thirsty to drink water. By then your body is already dehydrated, which will cause yellow urine over time. You will feel better if you drink more water, but don't drink too much water at one time. Try to drink it in several times.

Eat less spicy food.

Eat more light and heat-reducing foods. Eat less spicy dishes, garlic, etc., and eat more bitter melon, grapefruit and other foods that reduce heat.

Don't hold your urine.

If you feel the urge to urinate, you should urinate immediately. With the increasing work pressure nowadays, many people have the habit of holding urine, which can easily lead to yellow urine. Therefore, people with yellow urine should pay attention to urinating on time.

Inflammation in the body.

If your urine is yellow and has an odor, it means that your body has inflammation. You can take some common anti-inflammatory drugs, such as spiramycin, etc. Generally, do not take them for more than 3 days. If there is no improvement, you must go to the hospital for examination in time and follow the doctor's medication instructions.
