Tips for drinking tea and not being able to fall asleep

Tea is a very popular drink in our lives. Tea culture has a long history. Drinking tea regularly has many benefits to health, such as preventing cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases and cancer, refreshing the mind, clearing away heat and relieving summer heat, sobering up and losing weight, and reducing fire and improving eyesight, etc. However, in real life, many people have trouble falling asleep after drinking tea at night, which makes many people afraid to drink tea at night or even in the afternoon.

Drink tea 3-5 hours before bedtime

For example, if you go to bed at 11 o'clock in the evening and drink tea during the day and before 8 o'clock in the evening (note that you should drink tea one hour after a meal), it generally will not have a significant impact on your sleep at night. This is because caffeine begins to work in the body in less than an hour for healthy adults, and the effects of a mild dose of caffeine wear off within three to four hours.

Wash the tea 1-2 times

This is because caffeine is easily soluble in hot water. After brewing with hot water for 2 minutes, about 70% - 80% of the caffeine has dissolved into the water. Discarding the first cup of tea which mainly contains caffeine can also help avoid insomnia due to drinking tea.

Drink a lighter tea

The effect of caffeine needs to reach a certain amount to work, and the human body generally has a certain tolerance to caffeine. For example, common cola, coffee, and chocolate all contain caffeine. So generally speaking, drinking a small amount of tea or drinking light tea will release limited caffeine, which can reduce the impact on sleep.

Drink tea with a higher degree of fermentation

For example, fully fermented black tea. Because of the fermentation of black tea, tea polyphenols are converted into polyphenol oxidation products such as theaflavins and thearubigins, which reduce its irritation to the stomach and intestines; at the same time, these polyphenol oxidation products can easily react with caffeine, thereby reducing the direct intake of caffeine when drinking tea, thereby indirectly reducing the risk of insomnia from drinking tea.

Drink sweet tea

The sweetness of tea soup is mainly due to soluble sugars such as monosaccharides and disaccharides in tea leaves, as well as sweet amino acids such as theanine. A large number of studies have shown that theanine has good health benefits in neuroprotection, sedation, and mood regulation. Such effects are very helpful for sleep and have no side effects. For example, the fragrant and sweet white tea has the highest theanine content among the six major types of tea.

Drink aged tea

First of all, the tea that has aging value is generally made from relatively coarse and old raw materials, such as Gongmei and Shoumei, which are old white teas made from coarse and old raw materials and aged. The caffeine content of coarse and old leaves is lower than that of tender leaves. Secondly, the caffeine content of tea leaves will gradually decrease after aging.
