Professional knowledge on leg care

Legs are used for walking and are more important than any other part of the body. If people's legs age or their functions degenerate, normal walking may be difficult. Some people say that legs are our second heart and a means of transportation. They are also the reaction zone for diseases, so we must protect our legs. What is the professional knowledge about leg care?

Legs are the "second heart"

The blood circulation in the human body includes arteries and veins. For the operation of arteries, the most important role is played by the heart; for veins, the pressure generated by muscle contraction is one of the driving forces of blood flow, and the venous return of the legs mainly depends on the contraction of the calf muscles. Professor Liu Changxin said that taking good care of the calves is equivalent to adding a "pump" to the lower part of the body, which can help the heart.

Legs are "traffic arteries"

50% of the human body's nerves, blood vessels, and blood are in the legs. There are more than 60 acupoints distributed on the calf. The six important meridians of the foot, the three yang meridians of the foot and the three yin meridians of the foot, also pass through the calf. They are important transportation arteries of the human body, maintaining the upward and downward flow of qi and blood.

Legs are "disease reflection area"

Many diseases will manifest themselves in the calves. For example, calf cramps may be related to calcium deficiency, swelling indicates organ disease, and coldness means a weak constitution. Discovering symptoms in time will help prevent and treat diseases at an early stage.

Aging starts from the legs

As the saying goes: When a tree gets old, its roots die first; when a person gets old, his legs weaken first. As people age, the accuracy and transmission speed of commands between the legs and the brain decrease, and they are not as tacit as when they were young. Experts explain that from birth to death, the legs are working every moment, and if they are not protected, they will naturally become "disrepaired".

Foot bath

Soaking your feet in hot water, especially in water boiled with ginger or chili, can quickly expand the capillary network of the human respiratory mucosa and speed up blood circulation, so that the white blood cells in the blood in the respiratory mucosa can promptly eliminate bacteria and viruses that invade the human body, thus protecting the body from infection.

Foot massage

After washing your feet, rub your hands to warm them up, and gently knead the relevant parts or acupoints. You can massage the entire foot or just a part of it, such as the Domo Yongquan point (sole of the foot), Taichong point (behind the first and second toe joints), or Taixi point (the depression between the highest point of the inner ankle and the Achilles tendon). It has preventive and therapeutic effects on dizziness, insomnia, anorexia, dull complexion, fatigue, hypertension, constipation, etc.

Lift your feet high

Lift your feet 2-3 times a day, level with or above your heart. This will increase blood circulation in your feet and legs, and blood in your lower limbs will flow back to your lungs and heart faster, allowing for adequate circulation. This will allow your head to get sufficient and fresh blood and oxygen, and it will also be a benign stimulation to the acupuncture points and reflex areas of your feet. Troops all know to use this method to quickly eliminate fatigue after a march, and it is also beneficial to lift your feet at other times.

Calf rub

Hold one calf tightly with both palms, rub it while rotating, rub each side about 20 times, and then rub the other leg in the same way. This method can enhance leg strength.

Foot wrench

Sit down, stretch your legs, lower your head, bend your body forward, and use your hands to bend your toes and ankle joints 20-30 times each. This can exercise your foot strength and prevent weak legs and feet.

Knee sprain

Place your feet parallel and close together, bend your knees and squat slightly, place your hands on your knees, and rotate your knees in a circle back and forth, left and right, first to the left and then to the right, about 20 times each. It can treat lower limb fatigue and knee joint pain.
