What causes dryness and cracking around nails

Cracks around the nails are often caused by insufficient lubrication of the hands, glandular dysfunction, and dry weather, which lead to cracks around the nails. At the same time, improper trimming of nails can also cause the area around the nails to dry out and crack. It is recommended to keep the front 2 mm or so when trimming the nails, which can protect the front part of the nail; in addition, for problems such as hangnails, it is recommended to use sterilized special scissors for trimming.

First of all, it is recommended that after cleaning your hands, you should wipe them dry as soon as possible. You can also add oils and moisturizers appropriately, such as hand cream, hand lotion, etc.

In addition, as the temperature drops in winter, the skin's oil secretion function weakens and its protective ability decreases. It is recommended to wear gloves to protect the skin of your hands and avoid frostbite or excessive dryness.

If you want to supplement your intake through diet, it is recommended to take in appropriate amounts of protein, zinc, iron, etc. Balanced nutrition helps maintain the normal functioning of the skin, promotes the metabolism and production of skin cells, and thus maintains the delicate skin of your hands.

Reminder: If you need to wash items by hand frequently, you can choose detergents with natural ingredients, or wear acid and alkali resistant gloves to protect the skin of your hands from damage.

Correctly trimming your nails can help maintain the health of the skin around your nails:

Trim your nails after taking a shower. At this time, the nails and the surrounding skin tissue are rich in moisture and become softer. Usually when trimming your nails, you should keep about 1 to 2 mm of the white part at the front of the nail.

Nails should be trimmed into a roughly square shape, rather than a triangle that is too sharp or an arc that is too round. If the skin around the nails has hangnails or peeling, do not pull or tear it off with your hands, or use bad trimming habits such as biting it directly. You can use "special scissors for cutting hangnails" to trim it properly.

Remember to disinfect and clean nail clippers, scissors, etc. before each trimming to avoid infection caused by minor wounds.
